This is a great hire for us! Those who were involved with the program last year said he was the one who actually put the plan together to improve the Defense. Disch was merely the face-man and worked the sidelines. This guy was a D-Coord. and HC in the NFL-Europe. He is very familiar with our program after coaching there for 4 years, and is very familiar with a majority of our players.
And the players who were here under Disch/Duggan stated they LOVED Duggan's intensity, his work ethic, his enthusiasm, and his ability to get the players motivated/fired up. I don't get why Jxn is not thrilled by this hire either.

That's funny because in Memphis, he reportedly had a thing for high-end wines and golf............and co-eds.
His ex-wife still lives in my neighborhood, I could go ask her.
. . . I believe he is one more guy that whose bar tabs we will be paying for the next four years . . . I wonder if we are on this stick for the bill if he winds up in rehab.

He only had a 2 year contract at Southern Miss. We only owe him for 1 more year.

I'm not ecstatic about Duggam because that defense underachieved for the amount of talent it had and the weak schedule it played.
I said it was the best hire Monken could have made...in other words, it was a good hire. Just because I'm not pumping sunshine over the hire doesn't mean I'm down on it.

Look, I'm not the one who has an expert on opinion on a team I never go watch in person, you are. So call me what you like, but Duggan is a good DC. He had the top defense when he was DC in the NFL-Europe and our D was ranked in the Top 30 in most major categories with him as our Co-DC in 2011. That includes holding Houston, who had one of the top, if not the top, offenses in the nation to 21 pts. under their season average. We only gave up over 30 pts. in 2 games in 2011.
Just out of curiosity, who would you be ecstatic over us hiring as a Def. Coord?

That defense underacheived when ole buddy buddy was runnin it. Once duggan and Deitch sp were put in charge it began to shut peoples asses down again. If that side of the ball is anywhere north of what we were this past year we are successful again.

He prefers to beat his problems with a stick. Unfortunately, Memphis never gave him a stick to fight with.

-Not sure where you pathetic "Internet tough guys" on BGN came up with the idea that I never go to games. Is there some sort of sign in sheet that I'm supposed to write my name on when I attend games?
-On Duggan: Yes, we were top 30 in defense. With the schedule we had and the talent we had on defense, we should have been top 15-20. Yeah, the Houston game was awesome. They did a great job that game. What about the UAB game? We let an inept UAB offense have their second or third best game of the season. Then, there was the second half defensive collapse against UCF that nearly cost us that one. Again, we had a good season on defense...but it should have been better. I never bought the Disch/Duggan were miracle workers mantra. Bradford was just completely incompetent.
-Finally, your reading comprehension skills must be horrible. Clearly, from my prior posts, I probably wouldn't have been that excited about any of our possible candidates. Who a first-year coach at USM can hire after an 0-12 season as their DC is typically not going to be someone who will make me blow my load. Sorry. Monken made the right hire. I have little doubt Duggan will do a solid job, but I'm not going to act like we have Will Muschamp as our DC.
Take your weird calling fellow USM fans out BS back to BGN. You can disagree with people. Hell, you can even be a jerk. I can be on the Internet. But the personal attacks garbage (especially when completely false) is just weird.

We had a top 30 defense, we beat a top ten team on the road, we beat a BCS team with a winning record (Virginia) on the road, our defense set the NCAA record for INT returns for a TD in a season, and you're bitching about how it wasn't good enough?
Seriously?
You find anything to ***** about.
