RE: Greedy nbe vs Greedy CUSA vs greedy Sunbelt teams
None of the CUSA teams are greedy as I define it. Greed is obsessive. It's the haves wanting more and willing to cut everyone else's pay to satisfy their wants. The University of Texas is greedy. Notre Dame is greedy. They want more than their rightful share and will spare no one to get it.
I can't really fault SMU, Houston, UCF, or Memphis for their actions. When they made their decision the Big East was still considered an AQ conference. That was no longer the case when ECU and Tulane defected.
CUSA accomodated East Carolina by taking ODU and Charlotte so that they would have less travel expense and closer rivalries. The conference had never taken entry-level teams from outside the conference but they did in this case only to see ECU leave for a football-only membership to a conference that no longer had an AQ bid. They damaged CUSA's reputation that may not be restored for years, if ever.
Tulane's president made an appeal for solidarity and resolve in order to rebuild the conference then at the first opportunity bolted to join the nBE which had already been demoted. How's that for hypocracy?
The old Big East was a move up. The current nBE is a lateral move and if we are somehow able to keep Tulsa and USM, and they lose Boise and SDSU, it barely elevates. With unknowns on bowls and TV money, is the nBE going to mean a lot more $$$$?

We are not going for the $$$$$ we are going to resume our relationship with previous conference mates.
So were we. Our rival FIU jumped and we were left on an island.

You skipped a few steps.
He pled for solidarity; he worked to bring about the Alliance; C-USA schools suddenly rejected alliance; then C-USA schools voted on large expansion, instead of holding sway with a team or 2. End of solidarity.
THEN he looked for a way out, as have several others, including some who voted for the large expansion in a weak moment.
And it was never about the particular schools taken - C-USA took the best schools it could. The number was the issue.

I don't blame a single one of the schools for leaving, but I don't believe "greed" (assuming you mean financial) was the prime motivator in North Texas' jump to C-USA. We mainly wanted to be in a conference with institutions with which our fanbase was more familiar.
Sounds like the OP needs to take a deep breath and relax.
