I was going to say this is beginning to look like the next move in a big game of chess, however, with all the moving pieces, it's more like Chinese Checkers . A bunch of crap is now being thrown against the wall hoping that something will stick. This announcement clearly shows that UConn and Cincy are desperate to get into an AQ.

I don't think you read the article...
"The proposed entrants would be UConn, Cincinnati, South Florida, Memphis, Temple, Boise State, San Diego State, UNLV, New Mexico and possibly BYU or Central Florida. Such a league would include football programs that are comparable and competitive, as well as extraordinary basketball featuring eight teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. NBC Sports Network is likely to be approached to gauge its interest in such a property."

It will be called the Pleasedon'tmakeusstayinthebigeast Conference, where UConn and Cincinatti play each other every week.

That league would really be a travel nightmare for olympic sports. I think if you're doing a continental conference, you have to have 16 teams with 8 teams in each division that rarely play cross divisional games.

We're talking about it, because it could affect our conference. If teams are left out of this (possible) new conference, are they offered a chance to come back in?
Other than that I don't care, and they can go try to work whatever deal they think they can manage with NBC/FOX/EvilSPN/Tru TV/whomever they think.
Again, the only school I wouldn't take back if they asked would be USF. (although some fans of some other schools who have crapped on our universities make me think I wouldn't miss a few others.)

Who's paying Boise to ship their tennis team to UConn for a match? Not ESPN.
Who's footing the bill for SDSU to send volleyball out to Cincy? Not NBC/CBS or Fox.
"Transcontinental" conferences only work for football, and that's debatable. This whole thing has gone from insane to suicidal. Amateur college athletics is in a self destructive death spiral.
