NIU being in a conference that includes the likes of Boise St, SDSU, Houston, SMU, UCF is still much better than being in a conference with EMU, CMU, Akron, and Buffalo.
two parts to "money" revenue and expenses.... The revenue you're looking at is around 2-4 million a year more. How much is left after sending your non revenue sports from San Diego to Connecticut..
I am for a FB only membership in the BE. Our other sports must be in a non football localish league like the Horizon.
If its BE in all sports than I am for staying 100% in the MAC.

agreed. I don't think expenses would be terrible seeing you'd only cross divisions for one or two games maybe in a 16 team league. When you balance that out with a bigger tv contract, and more butts in the seats...I think it could work. I just don't see us in the big 12. We just aren't as comparable to those teams as the ones left in the big east and mountain west. Give me a best of the mac, mwc, and what's left of the big east and i'd be a respectable football conference.

RE: Big East Break-Up, NIU
I personally really like the MAC
I think in the last 3 years they have really turned it around. I enjoy the close travel, I enjoy the close games with Toledo, and I really enjoy the way that the MAC chose to back us up with the BCS bowl funding.
I believe that the MAC is becoming a well-respected conference. We're getting up there in terms in mid-major conferences, and in sports like Soccer and Wrestling we are one of the top.
Screw the Big East. Why would you ever want to become part of that debacle? The MAC has benefited greatly from the Big East sucking as of late, and not making school membership changes like the other conferences have. Should get rid of EMU though, seriously.

More like $3,000,000 per year compared to $100,000 per year we get now.
If the East West divisions keep on each side of the Mississippi then travel really wouldn't be that bad...for us. The wort trips would be to USF and UCF...boo hoo.

It would be huge for recruiting though.

+1
And the trips to Texas and Cali at least every 4 years wouldn't hurt either!

These figures are coming almost out of thin air. No one actually knows what the new BE contact will be.

True..but its still 30 times better than what we have now. There is room for the air to get even thinner.

It's like everyone is on an oil tanker that has uncomfortable quarters, bad food and bad oil fumes. You then see the Titanic moments after it hits an iceberg floating magnificently in front of you. You want to change ships for the better food, entertainment and comfort.

You can't say that an unknown figure is better than anything. We could bolt, then the BE breaks up, then the figure is 0.
Or the increase in revenue doesn't offset the increase in expenses - the new BE is unlikely to get anything near the deal that is being quoted.

Even if it is CUSA 4.0 with Temple and -UAB/Rice it will still be worth MUCH more than what we get now.

RE: Big East Break-Up, NIU
Or we could stay, and the nBE takes Fresno instead, the game of musical chairs ends and it's announced every BE team gets $3 million per school, and we say "Well, at least I can drive to Muncie!"
No one knows but there are estimates in articles that even after the defections the BE contract will be worth millions per school. You make your best estimate at the time and act on that.
The big question is whether UConn and Cincy are bolting for the ACC, and the ACC doesn't seem interested unless it's poached more by the B10. Nobody really knows. Delaney has made statements throwing cold water on the idea. Even if they both leave, the TV contract is almost certainly still worth more than the MAC's. It's up to the AD to decide whether the increase in revenue is worth it, taking into consideration the accompanying risks and increase in expenses.
