Maybe, just maybe if Holtz has some success he will already have the knowledge that the grass is not always greener at another job, and because you win at one place it does not guarantee you will win wherever you go. Maybe he will stay for a while and give us some consistency.

That mindset really burned us last year. I'm not saying Skip is Ellis, not at all, but I think we hired EJ because he has a lot of experience and we thought he'd be here several years

The only problem with EJ was he never should've become more than a DC. He went 0-12 @ USM and wasn't on the market very long before getting hired at an SEC school as their DC

Well, it wasn't long ago that ECU won back to back conference championships by sporting the best defense in the league and a serviceable offense.

More often than not, and despite all the flashy offenses, the best defense in the conference wins the conference.

WAC too. Despite the #1 offense in the nation, even in a dying conference.... it was the best defense that won the championship this year.

This could be a reason:

Tech has their own strength & conditioning coach that will probably have to kept around, Damon Harrington

You mean that guy who turned a HS Safety/RB into a Superbowl winning DE?

RE: Skip Holtz new coach at LaTech???
I actually think Holtz will be great fit for the current personell and athletes we have at Tech. We just lost close to half the team as seniors and our strength coming back is our run game and the development of the young talent that has been recruited. In program that has lost as much as Tech has this season, bringing in a head coach with experience playing in the new conference we are going into could be just the ticket to a successful season. I know many of us would have liked a more high risk - high reward type, but we have done that before to no avail. Proven consistency and control is what the Tech program needs currently and that is what how Holtz has proven his coaching genre to be put together.

Get ready for...

"Up the gut! Up the gut! Up the gut! Punt!"

Haha... he had the luxury of a GREAT defensive coordinator and 3 NFL defensive linemen when he was at ECU. ...not to mention Chris Johnson and Dwayne Harris.

I hope Tech does good under Holtz. I want to see them continue to build on their success.. I've spent a couple weeks at La Tech back when I was in HS. I like Tech.

I am not sure I would say a poor offensive coach...He is just much more conservative on offense than most college coaches these days. He has a good formula to build a winning program but for some reason he could never really get it going at USF. One thing that has really plagued Holtz during his time at ECU and USF is he seems to have an inordinate amount of injuries. I am not sure the reason but it really hurt him at time while he was at both ECU and USF, may just be a coincidence.

We had a poor strength and conditioning coach and he left after Ruff's first year I believe for USF.

He is a good hire. I think he will keep you guys moving forward as a solid team. You will beat some good teams and get recognized, but you will also blow it on occassions to bad teams. Just we wary that he will leave as soon as La Tech gets recognized as a good team and will be off to "another special situation."

About as special as Greenville.

No, that's a rip on Skip Holtz, not Ruston. That came from what he said when he left ECU.

I got You. I sure pay better attention.

I like it. Despite the amazing offense, I got to where it was hard to watch this team late in the year because the defense was so bad.

Knock the "up the gut" game all you want. We will have two of the most dynamic rushers in the league next year, bank on it. If they stay healthy he can run Dixon/King all day for all I care.

But Skippy was a HC at UCon, Here, USF, and now LT. That is a lot of HC experience, compared to Ellis and his zero HC experience coming in.

He had HC experience, it was just awful.
