I've always liked our decades long association with Tulane.

It's a great road trip and they've never once created a wave in any of the 4 conferences we've shared with them.

All they did was accept an extended invitation.

They are miscast in this whole situation.

The conference was destined to break up after the defections of Cuse, Pitt, WVU. The Rutgers and Louisville were just the last straws.

The conference tried to make the best of it and got extremely CUSA heavy. Not a bad thing, they were the only schools available. Not good enough to be invited before the mass exodus but better than the other alternatives.

It's not Tulane's fault. Tulane is not the problem, they are no different than the other programs - none of them really excite the media types enough and the basketball schools rather pull a "BYU". Rather than get a perception down grade, go it alone. They will get a better deal without the football and avoid sharing political power with the newbies.

To say Tulane is the same in regards to the media types as Houston and Boise doesn't even warrant a response so I won't.

Well then, I can't wait to see Boise and Houston rake it from the networks when they go it alone, hang onto some newer Big East or go to the MWC.

Spoiler alert . . .

Ever hear of suicide bombers?? The vote for Tulane was the excuse the BB teams needed to push the button. They were gonna vote ECU in for all sports also, but figured Tulane would be enough to start the process. "ECU would have sent them over the ledge..................."
It's sabotage I tell ya.......

BREAK OFF ALREADY and lets build an ALL SPORTS CONFERENCE like it ought to be.

It's all Tulane's fault. I saw her bouncing down the halls in her Red Mini-Dress and 3 inch heals. It was only a matter of time before someone on the board snatched her up. Problem is their all married and none want's to admit the affair. 04-jawdrop

I'm sorry for your school and the Tulane fans, my friend, but objections to your addition to the Big East been a disaster for the Big East at all levels, and some of us, like the western teams, were objecting at the very beginning.

I say this because I can see the same reactions by the SEC schools if Houston was added, or the Big 12 schools if Memphis was invited, or if CUSA added Idaho.

It's not Tulane's fault for accepting however it is the Presidents fault for voting them in at this time. Could have been done after more western adds. Seems the b ball schools did it on purpose to ***** and moan about it because the football schools were not happy when it was announced.

RE: Just conversed with McMurphy via email
I'm wondering if, before the last defections, the schools (which at the time included most the football schools still) voted to give the commissioner power to go to 14 with any schools on an approved list. The basketball schools reluctantly went along believing the conference needed to protect football and knowing they still had some big connections in basketball. Tulane probably was on the list, but not seen as likely anyway given at least one western team was needed and you were only replacing 2 football members.

That was all before Rutgers and Louisville left though. With them gone too, the connections keeping things together faded too much, but the vote on giving the commissioner power had already been enacted and he went with Tulane as the best need for football (for...some reasons).

I wonder if UCONN, UC, USF will go indy and stay with the C7. I would think they are the next three to be picked up buy any over the remaining BCS conferences. I also wonder if it is time of the Basketball only conference like hockey has. If so I hope the C7 can stay with Memphis, Houston, SMU, Temple, UCONN, UC, and USF. Bring on Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis, and VCU and that is a powerful conference. Sorry to Boise and SDSU. I feel like they were the prize in the Big East. This is not at all how I wanted it to turn out but it is what it is.

You know it’s funny you say that….. just the other day I saw a picture of the JFK shooting, and I thought I saw a very faint image of Tulane University on the grassy knoll.

Draw your own conclusions, but I’m just saying.

My guess is that there was uneasiness within the Catholic school ranks, an uneasiness that would have probably emerged at some time. The Tulane invitation was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. But my guess is that, eventually, the Catholic schools would have broken away, whether Tulane was in or not in Nbe. IMO, the primary driving factor was the tv contract. Tulane is being used as the whipping boy.

The school Presidents had to at least have a conference call to invite Tulane and ECU. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

The only current school that woudln't have voted on that is Rutgers, since we were already out.
