RE: So adding Tulane destroyed the Big East
Scott Van Pelt has been ripping the new Big East on his show. SVP makes a great point though, the Big East was established for basketball; not football. Now you can truly blame football for the destruction of the Big East. SVP said, "how can the seven Catholic schools get excited about playing UCF, SMU, and Tulane instead of Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, and WVU?"

He's off base there. Saying Tulane killed the Big East is akin to saying the Hitler Youth (called on by Hitler to defend Berlin from the advancing Allies) lost WWII for Germany.

I'll give it another spin. The basketball schools killed the Big East. Football wanted to expand, which would have provided stability; and the basketball schools nixed it until it was too late and they had to add as a knee-jerk reaction.

Basketball's reluctance to add pushed football schools to look for greener pastures and put BE football in survival mode. Ultimately, basketball didn't like the moves and left.

I'm with you 99.. the basketball schools brought this on themselves, but I will say IMO, this started when they started the hybrid model. They were trying to get the best of both worlds and shot themselves in the foot in doing so.

Well they finally let us in, actually split, and we still don't get credit for bringing them down. We get no respect, no respect I tell ya.

I laffed.
