MyBB NAIA RIO GRANDE (Ohio) L 65-67 (0-0, 3-7)
Hands down, this is the least appealing game for fans on this season's schedule. RG is a mediocre NAIA team.

However, it can serve a purpose for the team as they come off exams.

Hopefully, everyone is healthy now.

If fans can endure this game - which hopefully will be a rout - it will get much more interesting with Gonzaga/Seattle/UNCW/ECU on the horizon.

Yikes - Rio Grande goes up 14-2 early, but CU brings it back to a 14-14 score.

White is still out and will likely miss next week's games in Washington State.

Ryan out tonight...I believe they said bruised thigh.

And....the Camels are now down by 8 at the half.

The other Big South halftime scores tonight......

Lenoir-Rhyne up 1 on UNCA.
North Greenville and PC are tied.

Ugh.

Well, at least it was interesting for the fans afterall.

Our Camels never led at any point in the game.

White was out, Ryan was out, just coming off exams.......I'm not buying-into those excuses.

Here's a fun fact....

This was an "exhibition game" for Rio Grande, so the win doesn't really count in their record.

Regarding Campbell coming off exams, wonder when Rio Grande had exams?

Another excuse....Campbell is the 14th youngest team in D-1 with only 11 combined years of D-1 experience.

How many years of combined D-1 experience does Rio Grande have?

UNCA and PC act like D-1 basketball teams and come back and win over their sub D-1 opponents.

There a division two school. We lost to them at home! We are the suppose to be the favorite in some polls to when the big south even though we have only 11 combined years of D-1 experience. In the big south preseason poll we were (which is voted on by the coaches) to when the North Division. We still have the former big south freshman of the year! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!

I would like to know:

1.) Does anyone think we are going to have a winning season this year?

Write back!

Congrats, the first big south team in 4 years to lose to a non D1....

Being serious though, I wouldn't read too much into it. If I remember correctly, Winthrop beat a non D1 by 2 pts the same year they beat Notre Dame in the tournament as an 11 seed.

Plus, I've been watching the league for a long time, and the league is at its all time worst this year. Everyone pretty much sucks. No one has filled the void Winthrop left when we declined, and while the horses are on the way again for us, it's going to be at least a year if not two before we are back on track with the mess Peele left.

It wouldn't be as big of a deal if this was our first bad loss of the season.

But this was the 3rd? 4th? bad loss

I agree! This is a bigger thing than just the time of the year. Its an NAIA team we should be able to beat them anytime, anywhere. I wonder what Robbie Lang is going to say about this loss.

Do you think Roller will fire two coaches in one year?

RE: NAIA RIO GRANDE (Ohio) L 65-67 (0-0, 3-7)
I think the more depressing thing is how we lost, not that we lost (though that does suck). Getting destroyed on the boards and outhustled to every ball is depressing. Not a soul on the bench, from coach to player, acting like they were into the game at all. Taking a timeout with 50 seconds left down 2 to draw up a play and immediately turning it over. Then follow the turnover by letting them dribble out the clock when we needed to foul a couple of times to get to 7 fouls so that if we needed to send them to the line, we could. There's no excuse... yes i know it is easier to lose to a NAIA than A D2 or D3 because they don't have the eligbility rules, but it's still unacceptable at this point.

Again, its the Big South, so we get Darren healthy and play well Jan-March and it could be a "successful" season. Bottom line to me is this - we have more talent that Campbell may have ever had at one given time, and since last December we are 14-21 overall and are on a 3-11 run right now.

As far as the Roller question goes ... My sense is he is not concerned with how many coaches he lets go in a given year, he is concerned about making sure we have the right coaches.

RE: NAIA RIO GRANDE (Ohio) L 65-67 (0-0, 3-7)
From what it sounds like they are already struggling to stay in the season to begin with. There is a very real possibility we are going to be looking at 3-11 going into the conference part of the schedule. With a young team, confidence has to be key, and I can't foresee confidence being high at 3-11 when we should be 8-6 or so. I just don't see conference play breaking much better (especially given our recent track history of sputtering when it counted in conference play down the stretch). I hope I'm wrong, I really do. But this team hasn't shown me anything this year from what I've been reading (and from what I've seen posted here) to make me feel otherwise.

And I don't think Roller is afraid to go out and get his own ball coach for basketball either.

Is the problem coaching or are the players we have just not as talented as we thought or both? I understand being young but even with a young team we have had at least two probably more unacceptable losses.

Maybe this year will be different from the past 2 seasons when they start relatively well and fade down the stretch. Maybe this year we will finish strong............or maybe not.

Roller has already fired football and volleyball coaches this year. With the high expectations for the team this year, I wouldn't be surprised if Laing is fired for finishing lower than 3rd in conference or losing another opening round conference tournament game.
