I say rotate it between Charlotte, Norfolk, Nashville in the East....

And then El Paso, San Antonio and Tulsa on the west side.

I think you're right. Contracts are signed, rooms and travel booked. Memphis announced it was leaving in I believe January and the tourney was held there in March this year.

Not sure, but I believe Memphis had also bid on the 2013, but that got yanked.

It will never be in Huntington. The airport is too small. There aren't enough hotels. The Cam doesn't hold enough people. I'd love to see it in Huntington as I'd be at every game, but it isn't feasible.

My "power rankings" of the CUSA cities (more or less) that I think would be the best host:

Charlotte
Nashville
Miami
Norfolk/Tidewater
San Antonio
Tulsa
Houston
Dallas
El Paso
Shreveport
Birmingham
Hattiesburg
Huntington

You could also have it in Memphis, New Orleans, or St Louis if you want a neutral site (that was weird to type), but then you run the risk of low attendance.

Tulsa/UTEP fans refresh my memory please. What was the process that Tulsa had to do to get the tourney? Can a city bid like say Nashville without a school in it? I know we are over a year away but I was having this conversation last night and was curious for some input.

Seriously? It's going to be in El Paso in 2014 of course!

Thanks!

I hadn't seen where it was going to be in El Paso in 2014. I guess I could of googled it or even searched on here but I swear I thought it was only decided for this year in Tulsa. El Paso did a great job and the great people of the area came out so in my opinion its a great location as the fans know their hoops and appreciate the sport.

Obviously I want an eastern spot too but I respect it being there.

Birmingham will be putting in a bid to play it in the 17,000 seat BJCC. Not sure what year they will go after. This facility hosted many Sun Belt tournaments back in the day and has hosted many NCAA regionals and regional finals as well as the C-USA Tournament. By the time we host the new entertainment distric next to the BJCC will be completed.

The Sun Belt tourneys where sell outs but that was back when our basketball conference was strong. Back then (1982 to the late 80's) it was UAB, South Alabama, VCU, UNCC, ODU, WKU, USF and Jacksonville. We were getting 2/3 teams to the big dance on a regular basis. Not so sure we could sell it out now but I would love to have it back.

RE: CUSA Hoops Tourney 2014 - Where will it be?
after 2014 go with a rotation of

East (Charlotte, Tidewater, Nashville)
Gulf Coast (Miami, Birmingham, Biloxi)
West (El Paso, DFW, Tulsa)

Left out:

San Antonio (NBA reigns supreme, and we don't know how UTSA will fare in conference)
Houston (DFW wins out)
Shreveport (Really don't know anything about La Tech basketball. Could possibly be a better choice than Biloxi for all I know)
Huntington (Would be bumped into the rotation if the City and Marshall works out a plan to build more hotels and a better way to get there)

Problem is CUSA fans don't travel well. The only school that traveled worth a darn was Memphis so to have a decent crowd you have to have it in a CUSA city of a team that stands a chance to make the finals. Also this team must get 5k worth of fans so we dont look pitiful on national TV. That is the CUSA recipe

Marshall almost had equal numbers to Memphis when we hosted.
