RE: Sun-Times article on NIU attendance woes
I think we get a little more coverage than Illinois State because we are 60 miles from Chicago.
I don't think they know we are FBS or FCS until now.

Let's just hope the thousands of people who have been clamoring for Huskie merchandise and bowl tickets as well as buying out all the OB travel packages at over $1,700 - $2,000 per person will stay on the bandwagon and come to Huskie Stadium next year. If you can spend up to $4,000 per couple to get to the OB and stay in a hotel for 3 nights, you can easily afford $120 for a season ticket.

The people buying those packages are driving the bandwagon. They are the established fans that have been around for a while. It's the students we have to get to the games.

MAC fans do not travel well...I would bet that over 90% of attendance at Huskie Stadium is NIU fans.

Somebody mentioned Northwestern attendance..I would bet that for certain games eg Iowa, Mich, U of Ill and Wisc visiting fans account for a good % of the attendance

Established fans......already bought in
Student fan base....not so much

The proof is in next year's avg. attendance.........this team/program has earned the right to expect 18-20,000 at every game

We almost never get help from visiting fans. NU makes out like a bandit compared to us in that Dept..

Anything short of a near sellout avg. attendance next year will be a disappointment.

RE: Sun-Times article on NIU attendance woes
18-20K is too low. We must put 24k in the stadium a game. The orange bowl must be a program changer. Next year, we could go 13-0. This is a huge moment for our programs future. If, we are ever going to do stadium renovations and add seats, the time is almost here. The future has to be a stadium capacity of 35-40k, 1 or 2 BCS teams at home and 50-60 dollar tickets, for those games. The rest of the home games, we can get by with 24-30k and cheaper tickets. Our moment has come, what will we do?

Exactly. It really doesnt get much better than this. The next couple steps will greatly determine the impact on the program in the near future and going forward.

RE: Sun-Times article on NIU attendance woes
Here is the simple formula for higher attendance

1. Market the product. Marketing has been non existent for 6+ years. Modern
Marketing. Targeted Internet adds/data crunching on what type of"person"
Would attend games. See Obama data strategies and use same principals
A. Main Geo focus on the west, NW, and SW suburbs within 1 hour of dekalb.
300K in Naperville/aurora alone. Secondary would be Rockford.
2. Get AQ games in dekalb and win those games. Ease up on Soldier Field
Play in Dekalb. Iowa game in dekalb...we win by 10.
3. Market the crap out of Lynch next year
4. Speaking of Obama, enough of this stagnation crap and let's have a thriving
Economy. Current Econ does not help
5. Did I say win?

We are not the only ones with attendance issues:
RT @jonsol: CFB regular-season attendance dips to lowest average since 2003. See crowds for every FBS team. http://bit.ly/UbrMEc

RE: Sun-Times article on NIU attendance woes
As someone mentioned, the visiting teams playing at HS never bring any fans. Other than maybe a 1,000 for Kansas, all other MAC teams bring a max of 100. On the other hand, Big Ten teams generally bring several thousand to an away game (depending where and what team of course). Anyhow, this number looks like it does not include the Soldier Field game, which I don't understand why not. Just food for thought.

Sun-Times article on NIU attendance woes
Espn posted numbers today. 56% of FBS schools reported lower attendance this year. For example Stanford won the PAC 12 and saw a 8% decline. This is all being attributed to media contracts an the ability to watch games from you sofa... All projections show attendance gettin worse over the next five years not better....

RE: Sun-Times article on NIU attendance woes
Our attendance issues are due to our lack of Season Ticket sales. The name on the field say it all - Bob Brigham! He never had a plan to sell season tickets. In 1983 his goal was to get us out of the MAC and into the Big 8 by the year 2000.
After 45 years of Division 1 football we have a season ticket base of 3,100. Get a marketing plan.
