Still need a DB coach since John Lovett left for the Eagles. Has anybody seen any rumors or info about who this could be?

according to footballcoachscoop this morning:

"According to SB Nation, Illinois defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale has reportedly taken the same position at Cincinnati."

Feels good to get one from Mike Thomas.

Seems like a good strategic hire at least from a recruiting perspective. Clinkscale is from Youngstown, spent three years as DBs coach at Toledo before going to Illinois last year. So he has ties to Ohio and the midwest which is something this staff needed.

Board minutes have not been released yet, but no mention of approving the contract for CTT in the summary of actions from yesterday's BOT meeting:

Really interesting perspective from The Champaign Room. Seems like he will be deeply missed, which you don't hear that often from a position coach.

Not a lot of reasons for optimism for the Illini.

Thanks for the response.03-lmfao Guess I had that coming to me since I didn't add "And Who?".

It's nice to be getting a coach from an "AQ" team (not that Illinois "qualifies"). Maybe this is Clinkscale's Cronin/Pitino move, where he wants to improve his resume. Hopefully he can get us in some northern Ohio living rooms.

He's apparently very close with the head coach at Trotwood-Madison:

"Douglass also has close ties with Illinois defensive back coach Steve Clinkscale, dating back to Clinkscale's playing and coaching days at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

"We've had some great relationships that have been formed over the years with those guys," Douglass said.

Which doesn't make it surprising that Clements might not be the only Trotwood-Madison player to find its way to Champaign-Urbana.

Douglass said four Rams in the Class of 2014 (defensive tackle Ryan Reese, defensive end Verondtae Wilkinson, wide receiver Kendric Mallory and running back Ashton Jackson) have scholarship offers from Illinois along with two Trotwood-Madison players in the Class of 2015 (cornerbacks Kei Beckham and Harrison Johnson). "

From the UI thread mentioned previously.

We've had zero success at Trotwood Madison for years. And that's a school just right up the road that has produced quite a few BCS level players. They had 4 guys in the 2013 class go to the Big 10. Would be nice to snag a player or two from there finally.

Nick Grigsby is one of those misses that comes to mind. Really with UC would have snagged him.
