Frankly ... The defense has been bad over two coordinators, and that lies on BW now. He made both selections; and oversaw it all. So, it looks like we have a basketball coach who can't figure out offense and a football coach who can't figure out defense.

Now we move on to our 2 years in football pergatory.

The team choked that game away. We didn't get a turnover they got 2 huge ones. Odu was out flat out out coached and played in the fourth quarter. Going for it on 4th was the right call. Heinicke just didn't get it done today. Thank god I don't have to watch that abortion of a defense again this year.

RE: DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!
Wilder knows offence for sure. I cant say the Bill Dee was a terrible choice though. At the time i dont think most cordinators would have wanted to come to OD, at least not the kind we would want for our move to the FBS.

Dee was an awsome defensive minded head coach in highschool. And our defensive line last year was under him, and they always did well, i suspect that may have had more to do with ronnie cameron though. Unfortunately i dont think his knowledge and ability will translate to the FBS level. Certainly it hasnt improved us drastically over last year.

I could justify another year under him, see what the new recruits do, players who developed bad habits under the last coordinator leave,
but i think we would be better off with a more established coordinator.

RE: DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!
The final chapter of the Wilder era has not been written. He may go down as the one who got it all started, won a ton of games but could never put together a whole team and never really won the big ones. Sound vaguely familiar? I'm not saying this will happen, but until I see a balanced team that plays offense and defense, I'm just saying the verdict on how good a head coach he really is isn't in yet.
I know they have recruited lots of defensive players this year. I'm not sure how much they will be able to contribute next year, but I certainly look for some improvement, at least against the FCS teams.

Thoug he made the right call. Only 3:30 left. Knew defense couldn't stop them--wanted to give TH as much time possible.

The fumble was the turning point. Thought we played well, was a fun season, no regents. Now I have to find some CBB to watch...

The fumble and then the Roughing the Passer hit on the first play of our next drive. Taylor was slow to get up and just didn't look right after that.

You can look back and find numerous opportunities that we let slip away in this one. That fumble in the endzone that we had two guys around and couldn't recover was huge. We get the ball then, we probably go up three scores.

What about our missed field goals that completely changed the momentum of the game?

The difference is we stopped Heineke late, and the Triple Option was completely dominating in the 4th quarter.

RE: DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!
Those chants of "Defense" you heard were the fans actually begging Wilder to get a defense. It has been our achilles heel since the beginning.

In moving on to the FBS, I implore Coach Wilder and his offensive coordinator to put down the game controllers and stop making video game decisions.

I swear a lot of our fans were more interested in waiting in line for food than actually watching the game.

Coach Dee, please resign from your position for the good of your University. We play ECU, Maryland and UNC next year. Each of those teams would easily put an L on GSU. You are not fit for this job. It's like a jet pilot turning in his wings because he isn't capable to do the task. Do the right thing turn in your whistle. Move back to O line but please do what is right for the good of the whole.

For some reason, I don't feel the hurt too much. I guess it's because I conceded like Coach Wilder did that we couldn't rely on the defense.

Despite his mistakes, TH gave us 35 points and a 14 point lead. Mistakes happen. But they happen on defense too often.

I hope this loss doesn't linger on the players all the way to next season. If it does, then I seriously think we should stay in the FCS until we win an FCS title. If that's what the team really wants......Uh No, bye bye FCS.

There certainly ain't no time to hang our heads. August 31st looms large. 50k fans. Real football. Well, it's ECU but you know what I mean. Better hit those weights in the off season.

Congrats to Lake Taylor on their State Championship. At least one football team in Norfolk has a Championship lol.

Wour defense is what u expect out of a 4 year program. Offense has blown expectations out of water. As in everything, everyone is to blame. But, we fought hard and came up short. I'm proud of what we've done.

We have to get better on the D-line. Monte Giffin can't do anything when every lineman outside of Burnette gets pushed 4 yards back every play. We tried every run blitz u could imagine.

RE: DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!
The difference in talent between the Dolphins & Patriots lies in the QB position. Same with the Broncos of '11 vs. the Broncos of '12 - the only difference is the QB.

The loss of Jalen Evans was a big factor today. Losing our best interior lineman not only made stopping Swoope's dive play difficult, but it took 1/4 of our rotation from us. Our D-line was spent by the end of the 3rd.

We had defensive energy in the 2nd quarter - and we made the stops as a result. We didn't have gas in the tank by the 4th & it showed. This tells me that the scheme wasn't as lacking as some would like to believe.

Bill Dee was an offensive line coach the 2 seasons prior, so he did not have a large hand in recruiting the defensive talent we have.

We have a talent deficiency on defense. IMO, our two best defensive players are freshmen (Taylor & G. Evans) - one of which Dee played a large part in getting.

I'm not in the 'Fire coach X' camp that some are. Seems that's the only solution to any underperformance for some of us. That's a little too reactionary to me. There's always more to it than what we can see from row A. I'm behind Bill Dee 100%.

The biggest question I would like answered is what was stopping our offense in the 4th quarter? IMO, I thought TH should've run a few more times on the last few drives - seemed like there were opportunities on some of those pressures.

Great season guys! I hope you all can find some time to support the wrestling program - especially if basketball isn't doing it for you this season. We've got American University on Dec. 21st (Friday) at 5pm in the Constant Center. See you there.

I should rephrase my statement.

I don't want coach Dee fired. I want him demoted. Make him a defensive line coach or move him back to offensive line, find a spot for him, let him continue to recruit phoebus talent but he should no longer call the defensive plays for this team.

It wasn't just this game, we got smashed all season long by a variety of different offenses and yes, even when Galen was healthy. Not sure he makes a huge difference today, we gave up 600 rushing yard and there is ZERO excuse for that.

28 points in the 4th quarter?

We fired our DC after the first GSU game but it seems we did not improve with that change.

In fact the defense got worse.

Someone has to take the blame for that.

BTW, NDSU to romp next week! Which is a shame, because I think we are a better matchup than GSU.

+1

I don't think Evans is as good as you think right now, but he has some serious potential. I thought Taylor was our best linebacker by seasons end.

We are going to be better defensively when we start filling our roster with more quality defensive players. We had some really nice freshmen this year. They will make big strides next year. Its hard for 18 year olds to be physically and mentally ready to defend at the level we needed this year.

ODU has recruited a great set of defensive players coming in next season as well. I'm not sure how many of the freshmen will be ready to play, but 2 to 3 years from now this defense will be drastically better.

I think Dee did an admirable job with what he was given. Remember that Rondeau had a MUCH better defensive line to work with. Dee had this defense hitting like I have never seen an ODU team hit. They were noticeably more physical and imposing this year.

We did improve. We got some stops and held them to 14 in the first half. They simply wore down and were useless in the 4th. This one was on the offense. Getting shut out in the 4th was inexcusable. 35 points was not going to be enough today no matter what.

nope.....I only bet against crappy coaches. The day I criticize coach wilder will be the first time it's ever happened.

I even think his call to go for it on 4th and 6 was right when you consider how abysmal our defense was. Coach Dee, however, was awful all season long against pretty much any decent team we played. It's inexcusable to give up 35+ points to pretty much everyone you play all season long. Puts a ton of pressure on the offense. Today, we cracked under that pressure.

If we are serious about moving up to fbs and becoming a fbs power, we need a real, experienced college d coordinator with experience, not a ex high school coach who gives up 600 rushing yards in the playoffs.
