And you didn't add anything Thanks UTEP fans :)
Hey now. I spoke because i actually went to Sam Houston State.
I was legitimately thanking the UTEP fans that commented (and will include here a thanks to the two Houston fans that did comment on Fritz) while teasing Caltex about the usefulness of his post.

As a proud Bearkat alum they have one hell of a team. They should be back to the national championship game again this year!!!

There was a report that he and Price's DC had interviews the week after Price retired. Fritz denied it.

As an SHSU fan, I don't think Fritz will be going anywhere, and here's why: The guy stayed at Division II UCM for 12 years. TWELVE. at division II. He could have moved up at any point, especially with only 2 losing seasons, but decided to stick it out. Definitely seems like a loyal kind of guy. Fritz and his family love Huntsville. His kids love going to school here. Willie Fritz has a history at Sam. He was an assistant here in both the mid-80s and early-mid 90s.

I think Fritz winds up as the head coach at Texas Tech.

If he wins the Championship this year though, what's there to shoot for? With one more level up of college ball (and illegitimately more like three levels, just all within FBS) to conquer, I'd think his competitive side would want to give it a try.

What I'm hoping for is that the threat of losing Fritz this past year will finally push this AD and the student body to start taking the steps to move up to the FBS. As a current student, I know I'd gladly add to my athletic fees to start to make the move, or even just to raise Fritz' pay.
Or, this is a long shot, maybe Fritz would rather have realistic chances at National Championships than a shot at getting to the Beef o Brady's Bowl or whatever corporate sponsored game the CUSA has to offer. But I'm personally hoping for a move to the FBS.

Better average more than 8,000 fans a game before talking FBS

This.
Also, I mentioned about three levels of FBS and there are probably more like four. Thinking three though, you start as the HC of a non-AQ league like C-USA or BE, then you get a mid-level job in a Big Five conference, then (if you are still winning) you get a shot at a team that is regularly in the hunt for the FBS championship (not capitalized on purpose). If he's as good as I think he is, he could be at that top level FBS eventually.

We would have averaged closer to 10-11k had we not had a bad weather game. We were only scheduled 3 home games this year. First game, 11k, Second 10k. Third (Family Weekend) around 6k, but only because of bad weather. Typically, our family weekend is usually the most crowded game, so that should tell you how abnormal this is.
I think a move to the FCS can only help our attendance. Most of our students are fans of the FBS, who still don't know the difference between FCS and Division II football. So I think moving up will cure the apathy. When a large FBS school is less than an hour away from your FCS school, you're gonna have a bad time.

8000 attendees is more than quite a few fbs schools get...such as sjsu and some of the mac schools...if they were having home games against "name" schools, more than 8000 would probably show up..

Being a suitcase college hurts us. Trust me I know.

True that. I'd rather see Sam in playoffs and be able to catch a playoff game once in a while (I was at the Montana game last year...very nice!) than become another Eastern Michigan that gets drowned out, like Sam could with Baylor and Aggee being not too far off in the distance.
