TALLAHASSEE -- If you an aficianado of nice watches, you have exactly four weeks to become a football player for Florida State or Northern Illinois. Chop, chop, time is ticking away.
As it does this time each year, the Sports Business Daily released Monday its annual bowl gifts guide that takes a look at the items worth $550 that players from the various bowl participating teams will receive from their host venues.
Since they are participating in the Orange Bowl, players at FSU and NIU will receive a Tourneau watch and an opportunity to select other unnamed gifts from inside a gift suite. Players from Notre Dame and Alabama who are participating in the national championship game presented by the Orange Bowl committee, also are receiving the watch and gift suite.
You'll recall, a year ago, the Seminoles' premier gift was a $420 shopping spree at Best Buy. They were each given gift cards in that amount and could use them for whatever electronic items they wanted: video games, headphones, laptops, televisions, etc.
The Sports Business Daily didn't outline a price for the Tourneau watch, but the watch itself cannot exceed $550. Per NCAA rules on bowl gifts, each player on a respective team can receive a gift as long as it is no more than $550 per person. Chances are the watch won't even go quite that high, though, since there are other gifts the Seminoles and Huskies will be able to choose from.
