I just don't care about him or his finances. He's entered a hornets nest. It is his problem now.

let him go 3-9 his first season and see how much Love he gets from the Vols fans. It could be ugly.

My gut feeling is that we just can't match that...and that's assuming that BJ is worth it, which is debatable.

It's not that I fault him for going...it's just business. But we who follow college sports want to be inspired from time to time, and if he'd said, "I know I can make more somewhere else, but I just love my kids to much to leave," that would've been an inspirational moment.

How do you value job security? One takeaway I had from the presser today was Ono/Babcock would've tolerated a whole lot of losing before they'd ever have given BJ the ax. UT will give him one season. If he's lucky.

Butch is a clown and average coach. He isn't Kelly, so don't expect to the Vols to be winning any SEC championship in the near future.

UT paid UC the $1.4 million buyout. Those things are useless. They don't keep coaches from looking and leaving at all. they just get the University soem money.

Good for Butch and his assistants who follow...the salary pool for assistant coaches went from 1.8M at UC to no less than 3M at UT...not only butch is getting a nice pay raise.

Outside of that, I could care less about Butch Jones and Tennessee...Next!

I'm trying to be non-judgmental, but these football coaches and their assistants are like a traveling circus, with the HC as the ringleader. I've got news for the players: The assistants are BJ's real "football family," and you can imagine that they would be royally pissed if BJ had thrown away their chance at big, fat raises. BJ may very well have liked it here, but, in his mind, staying would have been an act of disloyalty to his assistants, who, like troops after a battle, expect their general to cut them in on the spoils of victory.

For a HC making 2 mil a year, a raise to 3 mil is no big deal. But to an assistant making 150k, a raise to 400k is life-changing. You can't tell me that BJ didn't consider this.

P.S. BJ at presser: "I can assure you that we will put together the best staff in America. Not just in the SEC, but all of America."

If he doesn't bring his UC assistants with him, the man is even scummier than I thought.

I think it was Gottfried or Watson Brown........whoever left for Kansas back in the 80's, they made about $60,000. And Kansas paid about the same.

Next UC coach is going to get 1.5 - 2 Million, unless Whit pulls a major coup.

Nice looking family.

Unfortunately, left out of the picture are a lot of young men who have been hurt and betrayed, the very young men who put BJ & family in a position to get that nice picture taken.

Is it just me, or did Mrs. Butch look totally uncomfortable at that press conference.

when he's fired in 3-5 years....

what a pathetic scenario. these guys are sadly a microcosm of America. They are selfish, self-abosrbed, and really have no ethics.
