8 man rotation and more....
I think last night we may have seen the beginning of the rotation that Coach uses the rest of the year. I think the starting 5 will be some combination of Shaq, Black, A.T., C.C, G.J. and J.J. The other 2 to finish out the rotation will be A.B. and D.J. I'm not discounting Stan or Hall, but their value will come when we have foul trouble or we need take some fouls on the opposing big man.The 8 I mentioned gives us the balance to play big or small, run the floor, rebound and pressure the ball.
As far as crunch time goes in close games, I still believe A.T. will be the guy to clear out for, allow him to post up and either take the ball to the basket or find the open guy if he draws the double team. Despite last night"s shooting woes, I'm not as worried about his shot as I am about his passing out of the double team. It should come in time, but that is something he needs to work on.
If this team develops chemistry and define the roles as the season progresses, the sky is the limit. Stay positive Memphis fans, I have a feeling we're about to go for a ride!

We looked our best last night with three guards and AT playing more of a four.
Black may have screwed himself out of the starting lineup for the rest of the year.

I pretty much agree with all of that. The starting 5 will be tricky with the guards. One of either Joe, Chris or Geron will not start. I have a sneaky suspesion Joe or Chris will not like starting. There will be times when there are four guards in the game when Adonis goes out. The frontcourt is easy, start Black and Goodwin and have D.J. to fill in.

Black will be starting again very soon. Ohio didn't have much at all under the basket. Ohio is a guard oriented team. That's one of the reasons we did really well with just one big at times.

Well stated on the lineup last night. We used that lineup specifically to offset their guard heavy/small lineup.
Regarding Black, I can see him starting again soon. But, his minutes will be going down at the expense of Shaq. Shaq is better than Tarik right now.
Overall, Ferrakhon and Stan will be the odd men out in the front court. We should use Adonis situationally at the 4 like we did last night. Shaq will be getting 25-30 minutes a game. Tarik and DJ should get the other minutes. Ferrakhon and/or Stan can be used to offset larger opposing lineups.
Unfortunately, I think AB will be the one to lose the most minutes in the backcourt. He'll still get some minutes, but it seems Geron, Joe, and Chris are more valuable right now.
It's good to see the lineup taking shape, though. Trying to spread minutes around 12 guys didn't seem to be working.

Shaq has nothing to do with getting some of Black's minutes. You want to play your two best big men the most you can at both forward spots.
I agree about AB. He is going to have to be the player that makes the biggest sacrifice in minutes as far as the guards go. Hall will have to make the biggest sacrifice in the big men dept.
Thank goodness it looks like we will be able to start shrinking the line up. We need to start role defining asap. Like him or hate him, Bob Knight always said that it takes about 10 games into the season to let things fall into place, and here we are 7 games in.

I was wondering last night if Black's lack of playing was due to matchups or Coach JP showing he's going to have to work harder to get his time back. Guess we will see.

I dont like Adonis at the 4 because it takes away minutes from DJ.

RE: 8 man rotation and more....
Geron Johnson has shown that he is easily the best option at either the 1 or 2 on the floor any time that he's in regardless of who fills out the rest of the back-court. He could easily be a D. Rose type player by the time it's all over for him here, whenever that may be.

echo above, we can't get away with 3 guards, adonis and a big against most teams unless we don't ever want to get defensive rebounds

I love DJ, but he is a role player. He is only going to get 5-10 minutes a game if everything is clicking.

I disagree. DJ at times this year has been the best player on the floor for us, he needs to get as many minutes as his asthma will allow. DJ is the one of the ones who makes everything click.

So what happens when we play teams that have a good legit frontcourt?
I got enough of us losing playing small ball last year. If we don’t have ”The Shaq-n-Black Show” going on most of the time then it’s curtains for us, especially at the dance.
