Isaiah Chapter 17:

1The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. 2The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. 3The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

Most Biblical Scholars think this refers to the enslavement of Damascus by Assyria as described in 2Kings.

This is scary.

scary that people believe in Iron Age prophecies or scary that you think it is coming true?

Scary that this prophecy is coming true. Scary that a city that dates back to the iron age is being raized. Scary that Russia, Iran and the good old U.S.A are all at odds over the Syrian Civil War. Scary that Dear leader seems to be itching to get the U.S. invloved in another Arab Spring quagmire.

The vast majority of people here know what he was refering to. Why would people having faith in the bible scare you anyways?

It did not scare him it just gave him a chance to take a smug shot at Christians...

But will he come back waving a single sheet of paper and parade around like a *******?

I wasnt belittling anything. I was asking a question in a way I thought went with the spirit of the original quote. If I misread the spirit of the original quote, then that is my bad.

I am one of the few people on this board who respects opinions that differ from mine. I might not agree with you but, being a free country, I completely respect anyone's right to believe or do just about anything they want.

Better yet, I respect anyone's right to be wrong just as much as I respect their rights to be right. We are a marketplace of ideas just as much as we are a marketplace of products and services.

If you did not mean "Iron Age Fairy Tales" as a dig then I am sorry. I thought for sure if you saw me quoting scripture you would know it was not something being quoted as a fairy tale.

once again, i wasnt calling anyone anything. The way I read the phrase I quoted I took it as being sarcastic and I replied in kind. I wasnt calling religion a fairy tale. I was asking if they were scared based on how I read the phrase. and again, if I misread it then I apologize.

Don't worry, people. As suggested by Huckabee tonight, Obama will send a strongly worded letter. He may even use bold letters and italics.

I don't want a ground war in Syria. Our military has been cut to the bone and is overstretched. We can't handle it. I'm just pointing out Obama's strength: speeches and writing letters. I'm sure he would have given the Japanese a mighty tongue lashing after Pearl Harbor.

The disconnect between what aTxTiger actually said, and how you chose to quote it here reveals a lot about why this conversation has dragged on. And, no, I'm not being judgmental towards anyone... just that if you thought he said something he didn't, its understandable why you are upset.

Why won't Obama go visit Israel? He didn't in his first term. It is practically unheard of for a US President to NOT go visit our democratic ally in the region.

Among other things, I think he is less popular in Tel Aviv than George Bush was in Tehran. I think his statements in the months prior to taking office and poor decisions early on in his administration made him extremely unpopular.
