They did not pick up Anderson's system until the C-USA tournament. That is about the time we started hitting on all cylinders. I really can't fathom how people would think they would have it down this early. In addition, we have a short bench, no pun intended. Help will arrive next season. It will be a nice upgrade in talent.

Did the direct connection between those two things not leap out at you? We can't judge McGee's systems when we have QBs that either can't execute the entire playbook or are wide-eyed Freshmen trying to catch up to the speed at this level, our 2-deep OLine is nearly 100% new so they can't provide consistent protection anyway, and our CBs 1v1 against opposing WRs look like boys amongst men. Similarly, it's nearly impossible to know when we've seen Haase's system once when we give the ball up close to 20 trips down the court...much less see its effect when the team gets in a groove.

RE: MTSU game thread
Good Morning Blazers, it was a rough game last night, but I made it through to the end, it was bad on radio, but it had to be worst looking at it.
Mature players in a system that they have played in since their freshmen years sure makes a different.
Ok, dont take this the wrong way and start shouting, but MD system may have made the game more competitive, because of the reason I just stated.
Coach is headed in the right direction, he is building for our future, we all knew we would have to take some lumps, bumps and dumps before we could take leaps and bounds.
One of the problem I see is there appear to be no role players or identifiable leaders on this team. The obvious players to fill the roles of team leaders would be Williams, Swing and PP, but only Williams appears to be vocal or charismatic enough to demand the attention of his teammates.
I am not worried about this transitional period, I knew it would happened it takes time for players to jell in a new system, trust themselves and others to score and defend the basket.
What concerns me is players not scoring, rebounding, defending, and taking care of the basketball. We have a team with only 2 players that could be considered a 4 or 5 ( which means dont dribble more then 5 bounces) the rest are 1, 2, and 3's.
Unlike at UNC we should have been able to defend the 1,2,3, positions that killed us last night.
I believe Hasse will reevaluate his starters and the roles of the bench, but ultimately, I know Coach is building for the long term and that is exciting to me.
Saturday cant get here fast enough, we have to get this out of our system and get a win.
GO BLAZERS

Well Coach Haase must really want to work on movement w/o the ball, as I went by Bartow this AM and saw the team practicing (running gassers) with no basketballs in the gym.

Could it be that he was a little concerned about last nights effort?

When you give the effort they gave last night you need to get a good workout in.

Haase wanted to make sure we had zero turnovers this morning.

This. My problem is not about the lack of fluidity or comfort with the style. The problem is getting punched in the mouth and just taking it (figuratively of course) which is exactly what UAB did last night. A lack of effort is not something that there is an excuse for no matter how inexperienced, how new a coach is, etc.

It will indeed be interesting to see how many and which of this year's players return as starters for the 2013-14 season. Some may be in an "adjustment funk" and will emerge from it later to play well - when it really counts. We could see significant improvement in level of play during the winter part of this season.

BTW, Do we have any players who may be "red-shirts" this year?

Depending on who was able to take the heat, turnover was still possible. Btw, did we sign one more than spots available?

Nope, we should be even on the spots available versus signees.
