I don't see this as making sense. FIU was a dumpster fire of a program when he got to FIU. He turned it around, sort of. I don't think whoever they get new isn't going to be much more successful there as Christobal was. CUSA next year will likely be weaker than the Belt will (especially if ECU leaves a year early) so they might have a win or two more. And they've lost a name coach and a years' recruiting.

Makes zero sense. He is a S.Fla guy who got kids to come there that would never have gone there. Who do you replace him with? Just wow.

And Butch Davis would be expensive, he is still getting paid $590,000 per year through 2015 from the UNC buyout which would be reduced by any compensation paid to him as a coach. FIU just signed MC to a multiyear extension last year. I wonder what kind of buy out was in that contract??

I don't even think Butch Davis would go that low, but even if he did it would be for 2-3 years max. This guy turned down Pitt/Rutgers to stay and he is a SFLA guy. Move makes no sense.

There must be more to it than football related performance you would think.

Better question would be how could you ever expect a coach to ever show FIU any bit of loyalty again? I have to assume there's more to it than just 1 bad season and something behind the scenes caused this to happen.

Lot of bad blood between Cristobal and the administration - he wanted to run his program, and the administration wanted their hands in it too much for his liking. I feel that this is a REAL BAD move on FIU's part....so now they get to enter a new conference with a new coach and a lot of questions on their roster.

I wonder how this will affect the class for FIU?

Cristobal's X's and O's were sketchy at best sometimes, but there is not doubt he knew how to recruit.

I'll bet Coach Pelini and the FAU staff is on the phones already. We go after a lot of the same guys.

How would Cristobal fit at WKU if Willie leaves us?
