* It was ironic that while Hazell guided practice at Dix Stadium, former KSU walk-on player and later assistant coach Paul Haynes was being interviewed to replace him on another part of campus. Haynes was the first candidate to be brought on campus for an in-person interview. If all goes well, a source close to the situation thinks things could move quick with Haynes, the front runner for the job.

FWIW, in one of his books, Holtz said we passed on him, too. Claims he was told that the AD wouldn't hire an alumni.

The Flash is right. We cannot add another name to that list.

These people are in such a hurry to break news they don't get the facts right. Hopefully this is as wrong as I believe and Mr. Haynes is announced tomorrow.

Kent State: Multiple sources are now reporting that former Arkansas defensive coordinator Paul Haynes will be named head coach. CoachingSearch.com first reported last Wednesday that Haynes had interviewed for the job.

Kent State: There seems to be a lot of buzz that Kent State may tab Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder as head coach. There has been no confirmation, however. An Arkon TV station actually reported the hire earlier tonight. A source, however, tells me that this speculation is way overblown.

I along with my entire family are glad to have a Kent State alumni back to be the head coach and continue building a winning program and keep the current success going..... So glad that the new head coach was hired on December 17th and can start coaching/recruiting right away @ Kent State.....Plus, Haynes is very familiar with Hazell/staff and northeast Ohio, so this should be a smooth transition.

The question now becomes, who from the current football coaching staff @ KSU stays @ KSU with Haynes? Goes to Purdue with Hazell? Goes elsewhere?

It was but i don't think he was a terrible coach. We went from giving up 24 at the beginning of the season to jacksonville state to 20 to LSU at the end of the year.

We started 2 freshmen at LB and 2 freshmen in the secondary...we had a ton of injuries. Our pass defense was really bad but our run defense was actually pretty decent...top half of the SEC i think. I wouldn't have minded giving him one more year if we didn't have JLS as our coach.

Not sure if he'll bring our former LB coach Taver Johnson with him or not but he is a pretty good recruiter

Wouldn't surprise me if Marcus Freeman or Taver Johnson who gohogs brought up move to the DC. Although with Taver having more experience I'd think it'd be him. Hopefully we can get both on the staff somehow and I'd love to keep Rock but I believe he's loving the opportunity to be able to be the OC at Purdue if Hazell offers to take him which I don't see why he wouldn't.
