Did they play in CUSA in 1973? Your a moderator OT would have been fine as this does not directly affect CUSA.

Fine I'll add an OT. But a team currently playing in CUSA football has a cool football video all could enjoy and you just want to whine. I doubt you watched it since you were so quick to put it down (its 20 minutes).

maybe if you said some or mainly Houston and Tulane fans would enjoy your video the above statement would have some validity.

Was the 1973 Tulane team integrated yet?

My friend's Dad played in this game. I really wish they'd bring the Bluebonnet Bowl back.

Current and Former C-USA teams that played in the Bluebonnet Bowl:
1959 - TCU
1961 - Rice
1964 - Tulsa
1965 - Tulsa
1968 - SMU
1969 - Houston
1971 - Houston
1973 - Houston vs. Tulane
1974 - Houston
1984 - TCU

Tulane integrated late 60's I thought. I'll have to look it up later.

Harold Sylvester was the first black athlete to receive an athletic scholarship from Tulane in 1968. The only reason I know that off the top of my head is because he wears a Tulane t-shirt in the movie Vision Quest and I looked up his biography after it peaked my curiosity.

We were integrated.
Most of our black players (and there were not a ton of them) were on the OL and DL at the time, which is why he doesn't see them.

Great video between 2 good teams with traditional football uniforms, real blocking/tackling and good fundamentals.....the way football was intended to be played. However, even I'll admit that the straight ahead placekicking looked pretty ancient.

Thanks for posting this JD.

Instant replay would have ruled down by contact at the 7:31 mark.

Very enjoyable.

Enjoyed seeing Master of Ceremony the late Morris Frank in that video. He had a country'esque "down home"
local radio show in Houston which I enjoyed listening to especially during the SWC football season.

As I recall, UH had already been voted into the SWC that year but would not be be elgible
for football until 1976. North Texas beat UH 28 to 0 at Texas Stadium the year before the Coog's
were elgible for SWC play and in their first year they won the SWC and went to the Cotton Bowl.

If North Texas hadn't gone on its multi-decade walk in the wilderness and hiring NCAA FCS or D2 type personnel non-stop post Hayden Fry we would be part of these present conference upgrades. Too many of our alums seem happy with what they get
since hardly any of them will ever write our main campus Prez and BOR's to question their hires, their propensity for slow firings of annual non-producers or merely ask for a better athletic program suitable for the 4'th largest university in Texas. You don't ask---you don't receive?

At age fourteen I (along with parents) were at the Grand Opening of the Astrodome which was April 9, 1965.

Houston Astros hosted the NY Yankees in an exhibition baseball game. Got to see
Mickey Mantle hit the first home run in the dome that evening, too.

President Lyndon Baines Johnson and First Lady Lady Bird, along with Texas Gov. John
Connally and wife Nellie were also there.

As I recall, Astros 2'nd baseman Nellie Fox (also a coach that year) hit a Texas league single to win the game for the Astros in extra innings.

Thanks for that video, JD Tulane.
