So do USM fans. That or hopefully we can get back with the guys that left for the Big East (Memphis, Tulane, East Carolina, UCF). Otherwise our program has really lost ground.

I don't know about the rest but Houston and SMU are not going to the MW sight unseen. We would see what kind of contract the Big East would get before pulling a move we could make at anytime. The door will always be open to the MW.

Well thats foolish because Boise and SDSU are in the BE....... the real question is, who would you rather play bball with, and who can pay you more?

BS. Do you have any idea how many Top 10 teams USM has beaten, or how many CUSA championships we've won? We were the BSU of the 1980s.

0-12 is the symptom, not the disease.

Yes I do and respect it but that was the 80s and there were no bcs standings to help you get to the Boise level

RE: MWC
In 2014 its a totally different game. Doesnt really matter if your in the MAC CUSA MWC or BE everyone in those conferences have basically the same chance to get to a big bowl. The goal now is to build your program with that in mind. Also any advantage the BE once had has diminished with that. They are no longer BCS so its basically like recruiting against a MWC or Sunbelt team. I'd even venture to guess after ESPN gets done with them the BE might even have a harder recruiting job than some of the best MWC and CUSA teams. I am glad we fired our coach this year gives us a full year of rebuild before we have to hit it.

Take out Cinci and Uconn and the answer may be the MWC to both questions

I wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch, bsu and sdsu wouldn't have set it up so easy for them to exit the big east if it failed. sdsu fans are already upset about throwing their up and coming bball team under the bus

Not really. The question is who do the basketball schools want to play with more. If UConn and Cinci leave--the incoming members are not going to like the answer to that question. Thats a significant and very real concern.

So do the possible future events predicted in this rumor constitute a raid of CUSA by the MWC or a mutual transaction?

Raid. The Mountain West would be going to 16. Theres no merger in the future if thats what you are hinting at.

RE: MWC
People speak of Cinci and UConn as this powerful force holding conferences together... I really don't think they are going to command much at the bargaining table. Boise St and SDSU have to worry about Big East Football, which makes Cinci and UConn only minor players (to their credit, better players than the rest of C*USA). Not to mention the instability of those two's membership, I think Boise St and SDSU going back West is extremely possible if not inevitable. The final decision will come down to the accountant's calculator.

I wouldn't count out those two (UConn and Cinci, possibly Memphis as well) splitting with the Basketball schools either. If they find out that it makes them more money to have a Big East Olympics sports conference that replaces the C*USA 2.0 schools with A-10 schools (Xavier, Butler, VCU, etc...) and just contract the "Big East" name to whatever group that wants to form a football conference (on the condition that Cinci and UConn are partial members) we could see Houston, SMU, Tulane, etc... fall right back to square 1 as far as their "all-sports" membership is concerned.

My fear is that our administration is looking at CUSA 9.0 as something that will make their lives easier. Just tell the fans no one else will ever have us, then rake in a bunch (relative to the MWC) of media money while getting to play teams that were recently FCS. Then our athletic budget is balanced and we can contend for "conference championships." It's all basically a bribe to get USM out of everyone else's hair.

Thats not going to happen. It wont be that complicated. ACC gets raided for 2 more schools. The ACC replaces those two with UConn and Cinci from the Big East. The basketball schools decide they dont really want games against SMU, Houston, Tulane, etc..and just disolve the football league. Then they withdraw the invitations from the new invitees and pay the liqudated damages. That leaves the basketball schools with the Big East conference and the name, but without the schools that are "beneath" them. At that point, the super Mountain West with Boise, SDSU, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, UTEP, and BYU becomes very possible. ECU back to CUSA. Temple back to the MAC. USF and UCF to the ACC after the next ACC raid (possibly Temple and ECU too). No damage to CUSA.
