Unless some sort of arraingement can be worked out, its going to be very difficult for the Belt teams to fill their schedule (especially for teams needing another home game or two). The question is going to come down to the legal obligations of MTSU and FAU. My guess is that FAU can't afford what the Belt will demand (for the record WV paid the Big East 20 Million to leave early - partly over this issue) and will have to stay for another year to avoid lawsuits.

I'd hope for something to be worked out, but I just don't see how. And I doubt MTSU and FAU can bolt in 2013 without getting sued. The Belt doesn't want them, but we need the home games. And even the SEC would have trouble filling slots at this late date for next year.

We leave. FAU doesn't. Belt still has 9 teams and an 8 game conference schedule instead of 10 teams and an 8 game conference schedule. Ta da.

In order to keep divisions equal in 2013 it would have to be both MT and FAU.

Or we could allow Tulane to join the Big East immediately.

They may not have a choice when its all said and done. It could be independence for a year. It could be Big East if they will take them in early. It could be that they end up staying one more year. I think we'll know the answer soon. My gut tells me that if MTSU comes in for 2013....then Tulane might need to be making arrangements for leaving early.

Yeah because welcoming MTSU into the league a year early is really worth getting sued by one of the deepest pocketed universities in the conference and a charter member. I'm sure the presidents at aspiring Big East schools (Tulsa, USM, UAB) and fellow AAU member Rice would be really eager to do that.

Are you ***** nuts, man? Tulane would collect millions in damages and lots of bridges would be burned. It wouldn't be close.

Some of the posters on these boards really have no idea how the real world operates. Its not all revenge fantasies and power plays. These Presidents have to associate with eachother in things other than sports.

I don't understand why some of you think that unbalanced division won't work. If FAU doesn't come with us, I think that's what will happen.

No reason for you to get your panties in a wad. Lets see how it plays out. One thing is for sure.....if MTSU decides to come on board in 2013 then I cant imagine CUSA allowing for an unbalanced division.

If Tulane gets to leave early, we're outta here folks. No one I've talked to wants to play in CUSA next yr and they're working to make sure we don't have a lame duck season

I think odds are pretty good that all the moves happen for 2013.... If SBC is ok with it- to me, that was the big hurdle quite frankly..... Only other hurdle really is the ACC.

They don't have to be ok with it. The buyout is so low they can be as mad as they want. One thing all SBC fans should know by now is that the conference sucks at binding agreements.

Exactly. No amount of whining will stop anything. I want us moving for next year, personally, and I'm willing to make sure it happens.

ODU folks, I figure you guys may know the answer to this. Has VCU not made a commitment to football and that's why they aren't in the discussion as a potential CUSA expansion candidate? I am all for WKU, but in terms of a second team to go with them I'm hoping we go after Ohio, Delaware, UMass, or VCU (if they make a commitment to football).

I did a little googling....it appears that VCU might be considering football at some point down the road according to the Wiki article.

Question (and I'm sure it has been discussed ad nauseam on this board) :

Will ECU play its non-football sports in C-USA going forward ?

No, it's not allowed in the NCAA rules.

If your football conference is in one D1 division, your non-FB sports must be either in the _same_ conference or in a conference that doesn't sponsor FB.

That decision was likely made for VCU when they joined the A-10.

SBC teams couldn't pick one FBS opponent to count as a conference game for even standings? I'm fairly certain UAB had to do this.

This is not in the NCAA Rulebook. Individual conferences, however, don't generally allow schools to keep basketball and other sports there while putting football in so-called "better" leagues. The WAC almost caved on this principle, however, as they were prepared to let Boise State return in hoops while putting football in the Big East. Boise State then made this arrangement unnecessary by stalking the Big West and paying enough bribe money to go in.
