RE: Memphis friends: NYE suggestions?
Ive seen some ugly Bloodkin shows @ the Young Ave Deli after Panic shows @ the Mid South back in the day.

Memphis is kindof a weird city. Its got some really cool parts and some really shady parts.

Memory Lane Story: We saw Phish @ Mud Island in 1995 and got all kinds of spun out. We were kids and thought it was a good idea to stay @ the old Kings Court on Union. This is basically a rent by the hour hotel. I dont know if its still there or not. So its like 3 in the morning..no one could sleep and we were cooking grilled cheese, puffing and hanging out outside. We see four pimped out old school caddies pull into the lot. Lots of shady guys get out and exchange money for drugs. They look up at us and we just bolt inside. Memphis back in the day was much sketchier than it is now. Ill never forget the outright lawlessness during the Dead shows in 1995. Guys had n20 tanks everywhere, the cops were just laughing at spun out hippies, as long as you werent fighting you had a free pass to break the law.

Did I hear that the Old Daisy got torn down?

The square has really picked up lately. Boscos and the new Local are fun. ( Boscos for the beer/Local for the actual bar and atmosphere). Then there is La Chardinae, where they have good wine. Located all within a half mile is Boscos, Local, Memphis Pizza Cafe, The Bayou, The Dublin House, The Blue Monkey, Huey's and new places opening up during the holiday season.

You guys saying cooper young is better probably haven't been to OS lately, but I would recommend checking out Madison Street as well as Cooper Young area. Really you can't go wrong with either, just take it from someone who goes to both areas a ton, OS is fine, as is CY.

Kings Court is still there. I parked there one time when the traffic was bad and I didn't want to be late to the game.

I remember those Dead shows in 1995. I had friends who checked out of life for a week.

Thanks so much for all the info! We're planning to do all the official TU stuff this time around (Beale St on the 30th and the tailgate/pep rally on the 31) so it's pretty much only NYE night we're looking to fill.

Wonder if the weather will cooperate. 04-cheers

Thanks! Another Memphis resident mentioned Local to us, too and it looks like a great place.
