RE: TU vs Iowa St Rematch!
Oldtiger, I editted my first response after reading his question again.
Tulsa is actually going to play two teams this season twice !
Tulsa just played UCF twice, the 2nd time being the CUSA championship.
Tulsa played Iowa State the first game of the season & now we play Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl.
The question is : Has any FBS team ever played TWO different opponents twice in one season ?
I would guess the answer is no, or at least not in the last 70 + years. Maybe it happened in early days of college football, but it would be surprising if it has occurred in the modern era of college football.

In 1978, Oklahoma and Nebraska played each other in the Orange Bowl just a few weeks after playing in the season. IIRC, Nebraska won the regular season game and Oklahoma won the bowl.
That makes one team twice, but were going to be playing UCF and ISU twice.
Two teams twice...maybe never in the modern era. I dunno.
Yea, no way on the first to play a team twice.
Hell, Bama and LSU did it last year.
A quick search showed Tenn and LSU played twice in 2001.
Now, two teams twice in one season, yea, I think you're right there. I doubt anyone has done that!
...and the fact that ISU and the Golden Hurricane are in different conferences makes it that much more unusual.

Yes, understood. I confused the situation by addressing TheGoldStandard's comment.
I cant think of any time that a team has played two teams twice. That's got to be as rare as it gets.
Congrats on the championship and beat the Cyclones.

Jester, NIU took OU's spot in BCS bowl. That is why we are playing
Iowa state.

Inside source from TU said Tulsa would've played Kent State if not Iowa State. Tulsa has done very well against MAC teams, but I'm glad Tulsa is getting another shot at Iowa State.

Yea, no interest in beating another MAC team by 40.

Congrats Tulsa fans! Very well deserved. You guys had a really nice season.
LA Tech was hoping to get a spot in the Liberty Bowl to play you guys, but it didn't work out. Tech gambled it all, and lost. See ya next year in CUSA.

2008 - Houston played Air Force twice, once in Dallas at SMU and once in Fort Worth at TCU

To be honest, I'm just happy we're going to the Liberty Bowl. It means we won the CUSA.

Again, Tulsa will now play TWO different teams TWICE in the same season.
Tulsa played UCF twice, once in regular season & once in CUSA champ.
Tulsa played Iowa State in regular season, now we will play them in the Liberty Bowl.
That is what Jester was saying.

RE: TU vs Iowa St Rematch!
Congrats to Tulsa football team! The CUSA Championship was the big prize; Liberty vs ISU is the icing on the cake.
It wouldn't surprise me that this Liberty Bowl has one of its largest attendance figures. ISU really travels well and this is a very close geography for the Cyclones. Tulsa really traveled well in its only other Liberty Bowl appearance.
Good luck to all CUSA teams in their respective bowls!
