I appreciate the turnaround he orchestrated while at ECU. I remember being at the WVU and Marshall games in 2005 and thinking that we were finally over the hump of the JT years. Having said that, the annual post season courting of job offers got old quick. I don't think Skip's assistants get enough credit for what they did at ECU, Greg Hudson and Shankweiler in particular.

If he stayed at ECU for three more seasons, he'd likely be fired from here as well. He would've had to deal with his lack on recruiting on D (like Ruff had to do) and his DC, a big part of our success, left for Florida State. Having Todd Fitch as his OC didn't help matters.


Skip left at a good time for his career, just for the wrong place.

Looking back, I don't know if a Fitch offense and a Mark Snyder D would have gotten us 6 wins in 2010.

Now that's a fine idea. Holtz may just be the ticket to get USM back to normalcy in a hurry. I watch USF daily here and this is going to be a tough gig for any coach, with UF, FSU and Miami taking the best of the best, and the SEC a better close choice for many kids in Florida.

I like Holtz, and think he did a great job at ECU. He can do the same at USM.

I agree, I don't think Holtz would take USM to where they ultimately want to go but he could get you back to a bowl game in new CUSA for sure and get the fan base and their $$$$ in along for the ride.

Like others have said, Skip really comes across as a good ole boy which is what most people liked about him at ECU and would probably like about him at USM, if he produced similar results.

One of the best fits I have seen thrown around for the USM job.

Do you guys at USM have any alumni, or anyone with history at USM that could possibly fit the bill? just wondering

Holtz is an every other job type guy....UConn good, USC bad, ECU good, USF bad....Whoever gets him next should be able to put some wins together.

I know! I swear it feels like half the country has no clue how bad things really are over there. Make that 7/8 of UNC-CHeat fans who either want to deny it (alums) or don't care because they have no idea where the school is, they're just HUGE fans.

He still owns his original house in Greenville. Not sure how you, random internet person, knows that. But something tells me they can wait for the economy to come back to sell it. It is a REALLLLLY nice 6,000sqft house. No need to sell it for a loss. I assume he doesn't lose inside of Greenville still.
