The Cajuns are going to be tough, no doubt about it, ECU's offense is very good and balanced at times; we are decent against the run but our pass D is attrociaous. What are the strengths of the Cajun's team and off-topic... how is everything in Lafayette? What's changed and what's stayed the same?
Good luck (until the game) and although I can not be there for it, I'll be dreaming of fried catfish and jambalaya...
I appreciate the courtesy not displayed earlier by a different ECU fan.
As for our team, on offense, everything starts with our QB, Terrance Broadway is a big time dual threat QB. He was a 4* recuit who signed to Houston and Backed up Case Keenum his true freshman season and played a few games for Houston including a start against Tulane. After that season, his Grandmother got sick so he transferred to UL to be closer to her and redshirted last year as he was ineligible due to transfer rules. He took over for record breaking Blaine Gautier when he got injured against FIU and has played so well that Blaine didn't get his job back. Our O-line is very good with 2 seniors starting, but no one on the line has missed a start this season. In the backfield, we have the preseason 1rst team all conference RB in Alonzo Harris who is more of our bruiser and Efrim Reed who is our speed guy, both will burn you in different ways. At WR, Javone Lawson was a 1000 yard reciever last year who had something like 200 yards in the New Orleans bowl, but the biggest weapon on the team is Harry Peoples who can do everything. Solid hands, great route running, and when we cant get him the ball in the pass game, we will get creative to get him the ball (reverse and direct snaps)
On defense, we switched from a 3-4 base to a 4-3 base mid season and was one of the reasons why we were so successful against Florida as there was no game film on it, our ends have been getting great pressure and it seems this alignment has helped with our pass defense by more consistently getting more pressure. Players to watch for are Hamilton at DT and Onyenekwu at DE, both are monsters that will make life miserable on your O-line all day long. Our defensive backfield isn't great, but we have a few decent players with Gilles, Moton, and White back there.
Finally, our Kicker is the most accurate kicker in NCAA history including nailing a 53 yard field goal as time expired last year to win the New Orleans Bowl against your future conference mate in SDSU.
There should be a huge crowd of Cajun fans in New Orleans for the game, last year we broke NO Bowl records for attendance and we played a team from California. If yall bring even a few people, we will break the record again this year. If you do come, you will be very happy with the hospitality shown by UL fans at the bowl game. I feel like UL is like ECU with a large energetic fan base, but lack the ability for upward movement because of our location and not at all by product or fanbase.
We'll see yall in a few weeks.
