Who SHOULD Be 15 & 16?
There seems to be some smoke around the idea that UVa and GT are going to be announced as the 15th and 16th teams on Monday. Except for the fact that two more ACC teams leaving probably starts the chain reaction that explodes the ACC, GT at least wouldn't be my first choice. I would like to see any two of the following:
UVa
Missouri
UConn
Kansas
What do the veteran B1G fans think?

No one. The conference is already too big.

Ohio's big on traditional conference structures. No more than 10 schools and traditional lineups. Basically he'd like the old Big Ten back and would prefer to see a Penn State anchored Eastern conference, etc. Not the worst ideas by any means.

For me it is absolutely Missouri and Kansas. Two more eastern teams and it really is going to mess up divisional structure. Virginia and North Carolina sound great and look great on paper but are Virginians and North Carolinians really going to embrace our conference? I really do not think so.
I think Missouri and Kansas are where we need to look.

It's nothing against any expansion schools. I just don't care for CCGs and like regional conferences where teams play something close to round robin. 14 probably now means we are only playing schools we used play every year (and have been playing regulary for 100 years) less than twice a decade. 16 would likely just compound issues more (it's possible 16 wouldn't be bad if it promoted 9 game conference schedule and they used pods to maximize games against each other).

Let's keep in mind this IS the Big Ten we are talking about. This is our conference and we know how important it is to these institutions to continue playing each other. The fact that WE are moving to 16 should absolutely tell you that 16 team 4 division set ups are going to happen.
We may have to use pods for a year or two in order to create the "need" for official rules but we wouldn't be going forward unless we already knew it would be possible.

Trust me I completely understand where you're coming from. I'd much prefer traditional conferences. If we aren't going to have those anymore I'd prefer to be in the Big Ten. If these superconferences fail, Rutgers, Maryland and Penn State should spearhead the (north)eastern conference that could develop.

I think that UVa, Army and Navy is a big step down from WVU, UConn and Temple in basketball and football. I guess it's a big step up in lacrosse and College Bowl.

Re: Who SHOULD Be 15 & 16?
I'd go so far as to have a 12 school Eastern conference:
Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, WVU, Pitt, BC, Cuse, Temple, UConn, Va Tech, UVA, Louisville
Very, very solid conference.

RE: Who SHOULD Be 15 & 16?
I voted to add one to each side (Virginia & Missouri) but could live with Missouri and Kansas if that would balance a western and eastern division. I wonder however, do you think Missouri would leave the SEC for the Big 10? Would the AAU academics be sufficient to lure them from the SEC?
As a newbie to the conference, if the Big 10 were to stay at 14, that would also be fine with me.

1) First choice - none
2) Second choice - MU/KU
3) Third choice - UNC/UVA
Best choice - go back to 10.

The academics of the Big Ten are a big deal to Missouri. Missouri is an AAU Institution. Rubbing elbows with their peers would be a huge thing for those administrators that will actually make the decision. They wouldnt have to pay anything to the SEC for leaving. That is something that should not be discounted. Everyone thinks the SEC is unpoachable but they have a glaring weakness in academics when compared to the Big Ten. Missouri has been trying hard to get into the Big Ten. While fans may be fickle and easy to say "No way, they turned us down for Nebraska" university officials do not have the luxury of emotional decisions.
Yes, I very much believe that Missouri will come when Delany beckons. First though we would need the Big 12 to be able to pick up some programs from the ACC so that they would release Kansas.

RE: Who SHOULD Be 15 & 16?
Two years ago Missouri would have definitely picked the Big Ten over the SEC. After just entering the SEC though and them feeling kind of snubbed by the Big Ten, I don't think it would be in the cards now. Kansas I think is off the table too due to the Big 12 Grant of Rights.

Sorry, I didn't realize that there was a big cocktail party. I thought the schools played football and basketball against each other.

Fair, but this stuff matters. Maybe that's just the old ACC mentality breaking through.
