We might as well be accurate-

mute point (wrong) vs. moot point (right)

Fake carrot and inserted clutch (wrong)
Fake clutch and inserted carrot (right)

YES!! By far my biggest grammatical pet peeve. Just think about what you're saying: You, in fact, are capable of caring less. The exact opposite of what you're attempting to convey.

Irregardless......it's not even a word although I think there has been discussions about making it an official word.

Diff between is and are. Such as:

Damn, beat me to it. :muttering: I always make that "mistake" as a joke when criticizing someone else's poor grammar or spelling and watch the replies come in claiming how stupid I am for using it in response.

RE: OT: Words that are commonly misused on Internet message and chat boards.
One I'd throw in is infamous. It's been misused for decades, if not centuries. Being famous just means being well known, not necessarily popular while being infamous, originally anyways, means the subject at hand is almost completely unknown.

Love him (and for most people) or not, Hitler is one of the most famous people to have ever lived but his legacy is just not very well liked and thus unpopular.

Language is a funny thing and it evolves over centuries (read the King James Version of the Bible and Shakespeare compared to modern English for example). So because words become misused, mistranslated and what have you their meanings gradually change and usually through the ignorance of the majority. Even languages like French that fight change have the same issue.

And finally, bragging about having a large vocabulary, especially in language like English that has so many variations spoken around the globe and has borrowed from dozens of languages, is like having a you-know-what measuring contest because as long as someone is well spoken for themselves and has a solid vocabulary, it's more important to try and effectively communicate with people on their level instead of trying to exalt yourself over them as if you're smarter.

Fortuitous (by random chance) as a $10 substitute for "lucky." The moronic serial-hooker-slayer Craig James loved this word.

I think that's what he was getting at, the misuse of road in place of row that is.

This isn't so much of a message board thing, but a sports thing that I've just started to hear recently. In fact, I just saw it in the Big 10 championship game

Since when do you call it "unanswered points" when the other team has scored since? A graphic on the screen said:

Wisconsin: First 14 points of game
Nebraska: 10 unanswered points
Wisconsin: 14 unanswered points

Uh, no! Nebraska's 10 points were not "unanswered." Wisconsin answered them with two TDs.

They've been mentioned already but the 2 phrases are:

Isn't it to signify the were scored in succession. So the momentum of the game could also be expressed. So UW has the momentum, then NE, then UW. I donno, but I see your point.

Related to that, I hate the new announcer saying, "Extracurricular activity." As in what's happening when there is pushing and shoving after a play.

For some reason it seems people like to spell ridiculous as rediculous on message boards.

Of course by biggest pet peeve is the misuse of pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, but of course that's on everyone's list and doesn't need mentioned.
