Athletic budgets
I've read many threads on here in regards to which team is a fit for the Sunbelt. I've not read much about athletic budgets so I came across this and thought it would make for interesting discussion. No, I'm not "pimping" my school, but I was a little surprised by the large gap. After looking at some of the Sunbelt schools Appy St. and Liberty would rank close to the top.

School Revenue Expenses
Liberty University #147 - $19,437,572 #143 - $19,437,572
Appalachian State #155 - $17,896,884 #153 - $17,896,884
Lamar University #203 - $13,382,246 #203 - $13,382,246
Jacksonville State #239 - $11,336,115 #236 - $11.336.115
Georgia Southern #243 - $11,207,617 #242 - $11,207,617
Sam Houston State #263 - $10,533,280 #267 - $10,131,433

RE: Athletic budgets
We just passed a huge student fee increase that will fund FBS. With nearly 21,000 students our budget in FBS will be in the $18 million rage which will be above average in the Sun Belt. App State has had higher fees for years which makes up most of the gap between us.

RE: Athletic budgets
There is a big difference between the cost of private schools and Public schools.

Just as and example, the cost for a student this fall semester taking 15 hours on campus at

Liberty $9,281
Georgia Southern $3.362

That is a difference of $5,919 per semester.

These numbers do not include if there is a diference in room and board cost between the schools.
Just to show how how much difference there is between Liberty which is a private school and Georgia Southen which is a public School multiplied out over a year for just funding 200 scholly raise Liberty"s budget $2,367,600 more that Georgia Southern's budget.

This tell me that you have look at more than just the numbers that are reported by each school.

Georgia Southern above numbers include student fees where as Liberty do not. Liberty student fee would add $703 per semester or over a quarter of a million more to the cost of there budget each year over Georgia Southern

RE: Athletic budgets
In summary, Ga Southern's effective budget will be higher than Liberty's in FBS. Jesus doesn't like putting others down to make yourself look better. WWJD?

First of all. You are private and therefore your expenses are going to be higher (as a result of the scholarship cost - which really isn't a cash outlay).

Also, money spent on Ice Hockey, skiing, field hockey and lacrosse are irrelevant to us.

Liberty is irrelevant to the Sun Belt, period.

Budget numbers don't mean a lot to me. What you are able to do in spite of state and federal audits matters.

For example ASU supposedly has second smallest budget in the Belt yet our coach is guaranteed $850k and has a $600k fund he can use to supplement asst coaches, cover recruiting expenses or add to his salary. If he wants to make $1.4 million a year and have cheap assistants he can do it. To me that means ASU's budget is just fine.
