This country's going to get unlivable for millions of others before it becomes unlivable for me. I just plan to be gone before it reaches me.

What are you waiting for? You are pretty damned confident of what will happen.

Probably because he has studied history. We're just doing the same things that have taken down all other empires, and the gov't is responding with the same policies used in those times - higher taxes, capital controls, decreased civil liberties, etc. It's ignorant to think it's going to be different this time.

It's also ignorant to assume we are exactly the same as other "empires".

I didn't say we were exactly the same, you illiterate fool. I said we are doing the same things and enacting the same policies. Of course, the biggest difference is that those empires didn't have the technology we have now that the government can use to spy on citizens, squelch civil unrest, seize assets, etc. Progressives love trying the same failed policies and expecting different results though, so I'm not surprised you think it'll turn out differently for us.

You also didn't say where any differences existed.
And I was really only talking about being taken down by economics. And that is where we are different. We aren't tied to a failed currency like the euro and the vast majority of our debt is held by us, not others.
Sorry, but I'm not worried about our government being 'taken down' by a little bit of government intrusion and seizures. No, I'm not endorsing it...but what little bit we are experiencing now will go away long before our country does. Likely as soon as the next Republican is elected president...if you know what I mean
