Coastal Carolina is now ranked in the real Top 25 while JMU is still "monitoring the situation."

We're da#* good at it. I'll bet we'd be ranked #1 if there were a poll for the best monitors.

And Liberty getting a decent amount of votes...
Keep saying "we are in a better position!!" Cmon...some folks will say that until we finally go FBS - or will you stop rooting because it will be wayyy harder to play for a championship "at the highest level"?

is it a "real" Top 25 when two P5 conferences plus Boise State are not involved in the rankings?

The teams from conferences you reference are eligible to be ranked. Well, because some are actually ranked.

So yeah, it’s real.

“this season is so done …. 2020 will be a year without college football”

“App State, Charlotte, and Marshall won’t be playing is 2020”
We need people leading JMU athletics that have superior vision for the future.

Does ‘Duke Dawg’ have an official position at the University?
Sorry, I don’t mean to butt in on your all’s board. I’m just a bit of a realignment junkie and like to check in on this thread from time to time. Barring an invite to the AAC, I’m wishing for a more regional league and think you all would be an excellent addition.

Right. Because we all know Ohio state would be ranked 5th and Oregon 13th under “normal” circumstances, never mind the fact that some voters have openly stated they are only voting for teams have actually played games at the time.
We shall see what happens the next two weeks when everyone is playing.

Is Midget Wrestling real? Of course it is. Therefore, we'd be real national champions that no one outside of JMU loyals recognize as "Champs". Doesn't mean it's not satisfying, because it is, we can hoot it up among ourselves, but don't bother carrying the excitement to work.

I am not debating if jmu winning the NC this year would be satisfying...I was asking in this context, somebody above acted like coastal getting top 25 votes is bogus because of the pandemic...so would jmu winning the NC need an asterisk?

If someone would have told me 5-10 years ago that Coastal and Liberty would pass JMU by......I would have said they were crazy....but here we are.

While we are also surprised, probably not as surprised as you. There simply has not been the demand for FBS in the last 10 years at JMU as there was as the many other schools on the east coast that have moved up. We're patiently waiting for the silver platter offer we can't turn down. I'm of the belief there have been opportunities for the MAC, CUSA, & the Sunbelt the last 10 years and we did not go after the opportunities.
Not saying there are not a group of us that value FBS a lot more, but overall many including the admin are happy with excellent fan support, excellent results, and less expenses.
Those of us that really want FBS, realize that top 2 of FCS and decent notoriety isn't the worst thing in the world.

I believe we were interested/pursuing the MAC opportunity at the time, it just fell apart due to UMass decision. Some claim we said no to the Belt because we thought the MAC would happen, but I’m not sure about that. Travel for all sports was likely a big factor also.
When Withers was here we were talking with MAC, and I think he may have even been told/promised it would happen. Now, I’m less certain, the messaging is a bit fuzzy at best.

They are 4-0 and #35 in the Sags. Pretty impressive start. The goal for a FBS JMU team would be a top 25 ranking at year end which happens with top G5 teams.

The story I heard (and trust me, EVERYTHING we hear from others in the Duke Club is EXACTLY that- a story), was that we would be receptive to a football only membership in the Belt. They said no, as they should have. IMO, our position and theirs, made sense at that time.
