There is a Breeze article posted online today about a reconfetence.

Nothing posters on this board don't know but more focus on the subject is good.

NJIT Announces a move to the American East today (They has been a geographic outlier in the Atlantic Sun).

Robert Morris announces a move to the Horizon.

Horizon now at 12 I believe (Purdue University Fort Wayne is also joining)

American East now at 10.

Nec now at 10 members.

I think these schools will be good fits in these new conferences. And it doesn't impact our unicorn East Coast Conference lol.

Also should have mentioned Atlantic Sun now at 8 for Olympic of which Liberty is one. Is that the minimum number of members for a conference to maintain their auto bid in basketball for example?

RE: Newest Conference Rumor
This is the month for conference moves. June 30th is the end of the fiscal year. Once July rolls around, you are stuck in your current conference for the coming school year. If you announce now, you can play in your new conference this coming school year.

Moving up from FCS to FBS is a different animal. I think JMU could play in the playoffs this year as their scholarships would not exceed the FCS max. The conference may not allow them the auto bid though. They then would have two transition years after this season before becoming bowl eligible. Am I correct?

I am expecting more moves to be announced in the coming weeks and will be surprised if they don’t happen.

For the record, the ASUN Commish has called Goodman's tweet "inaccurate" and teased a "Stay Tuned". I suspect there might be some mergers/swaps announced soon. Where there is smoke there is likely fire.

If A Sun was to absorb 5 teams such that another D1 conference ceased to exist wouldn’t that open up an auto bid for a new regional startup conference
While not upsetting the current balance?

Yep. It sure would. Unless the NCAA decides to just give another at larger spot to some 17-15 mediocre undeserving p5 school.

I heard rumors of the ASun forming an FBS league. You already have Liberty, N. Ala. and Kennesaw St. as ASun schools. If App, ODU, Marshall, Georgia St., Mid. Tenn, Charlotte and JMU join, you have 10 football schools that are all within an 8-9 hour drive of each other.

I don’t believe JMU necessarily would be interested or if the other schools would have interest but it is fun to speculate and throw names out.

Even if a current auto bid conference gets absorbed by other conferences, I wouldn’t count on that making it nice and simple to go form a new conference. The P5 will fight any new auto bids even if it’s just a new one to replace an old one.

Agree there would be resistance to a "new" conference, but if the shell of an abandoned conference was recycled quickly, it might not technically be a new conference. The legal entity could remain the same, but the membership change. And renaming it wouldn't likely be an issue either, conferences do rebrand sometimes. Now if the conference went dormant or closed, that might not work out.

Believe there is a minimum of 8 "active FBS" schools required for a FBS conference. Don't think transitioning schools would count without a waiver? Unless the FBS schools technically stayed independent for football while the others transitioned.

I would hope JMU would have strong interest in any conference that landed the trio of App St, Marshall and ODU. I don't think its likely anything better could develop, outside a miracle invite to the AAC.

The video link above suggests the ASun is pursuing expanding and splitting into 2 sister conferences. In which case it likely wouldn't open up an auto bid if they absorb a conference. I get the feeling they are a bit more ambitious than simply absorbing the MEAC here.

So it would take one more FBS program to get to 8. I guess N. Ala. is odd man out since they are not yet ready for the move up to FBS. I believe they either just finished transitioning or are in the process of transitioning to FCS. They could be added later. For now, it would need to be another current FBS school that allows the conference to remain a bus league.
