So what your saying is MTSU, Georgia State and FAU...
But seriously, MTSU and WKU right meow
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ga State and FAU get added.

If you squint when Ga. State is playing at home, you would think it's Tulane.

I don't know what you mean by "helping Eastern teams", but these schools are 13 hours drive from ODU. In other words, a flight into a mid-sized airport with a layover at a hub, and a rental car. I don't necessarily oppose the additions, but they really don't help ODU anymore than adding Utah State would help ODU.
I haven't seen Delaware argued yet. Good stadium, history, fan support, Philly market, large state school with big endowment. Bueller?

Not saying I want them, but it's interesting that Buffalo never gets mentioned by anyone for anything. They have market and are an AAU accreditied school. Plus they are probably the only MAC school that would actually consider leaving the MAC (maybe NIU too).

With no ECU and no UCF, that's possible, BUT that puts pretty much every previous conference winner on the West side of the conference, so I don't think it'd happen.
Yep, that was my thought as well. Probably more likely to add one east and one west so USM can stay east, but who the hell knows any more.

If CUSA wants markets then and exposure it could easily be MTSU/GAState/FAU.
MTSU gets CUSA back into TN
GAState gets you in Atlanta
FAU gives you a lock down on S. Florida and travel partner for FIU.
Who knows though.
Tulane to the nBE really caught me by surprise.

Why would anyone from the MAC leave to join CUSA.
Increased travel costs to play worse competition?
You could almost say the same thing to the sunbelt.

Ditto. I keep reading everyone mention all these schools and them saying "helps eastern schools" but nothing mentioned is even remotely regional to anywhere. Shrug... maybe that's some of the "FCS" left in me or just being self serving.

If it's truly market we could beat up on GA State some more. =] Hopefully they turn a new leaf with a fresh new coach.

RE: Old Dominion Writer Harry Minium on CUSA Expansion
Here's the bottom line folks. The reason why you all went to 14 is because that's the deal your TV partners said was needed in return for not reducing the total TV dollar package. Now, of course the same money split 14 ways vs. 12 is less per school but was likely better than have a the deal reduced even further by the Houston, SMU, et al defections.
Fast forward and the same applies. Bankowsky can essentially guarantee there will be no changes to the TV contract, because the schools he's likely to add are actually going to give C-USA a net gain in the number of TV households as defined by those directly in the schools immediate media market (though not the only measure used but a big one). Therefore, add MT and FAU and you actually increase the number of TV households by nearly a million. Add MT and GSU and you increase TV households by more than two million. Add NIU and GSU and you increase TV households by nearly 3 million. There are actually a quite a few options that increase the so called media footprint by virtue of actually losing Tulane and ECU.
But here's the real rub. By losing Tulane you're not even losing the New Orleans media market. The cable providers that already carry C-USA games are set in that area plus C-USA is still going to have a presence in the state. Same holds true in N.C. You're not going to lose market share there because the cable subscriptions fees are already priced in. This is one of two reasons why I believe Middle Tennessee did not get invited earlier this year. CBS College Sports launched in the Nashville DMA in 2010. Fox Sports Tennessee already broadcast C-USA games. Essentially, C-USA already had penetration into the market with or without Middle Tennessee. Even though MT has a pretty good record of viewership when shown in the Nashville market there wasn't much more penetration C-USA was going to achieve by adding us. Of course advertising can be tailored to the market and the games/teams being carried but you get the essence of this point.
With all that said, there is a great deal potential for more penetration in the Chicago, Atlanta, south Florida media markets. That's why you're going to see NIU, GSU, and FAU, respectively on short lists for C-USA. NIU, in particular, is extremely marketable in Chicago particularly given CBS College Sports has one of its three offices located there. The one thing that hurts NIU is proximity or lack thereof to the rest of the current and potential members.
Unfortunately, this whole thing is cluster. None of this is going to end anytime soon. I just wish we could all get to our homes and establish some long-term relationships. I just now feel like MT has developed and settled in to some good rivalries with schools like Troy and UL.

i'm with you on this. however, when it comes to rivalry....i could live with this much sooner than the other 2 schools that already hate us.

Crushed with the loss of ECU.
GSu(atlanta) was a HORRIBLE addition to the CAA. Poor teams, anemic fan support, etc.
The other GSU in Statesboro would provide a much better rival, and the Savannah market actually cares aboutthat athletic program.
Seen GSU (atl) in Norfolk and this year in ATL. Their kids actually do pregame at the CNN center - how freaking depressing is that.
If ODU is linked to GSU (atl), we would have better served staying in I-AA. GSU stinks and their market does nothing in accelerating meaningful rivalries. I'd prefer an alliance of GSU (statesboro), ECU, Marshall. APPY, UNc-c, etc.

You've taken two Sun Belt teams and in the past five years UNT is 11-28 in Sun Belt play and FIU is 19-20 (with one left to play).

Good post. Agree that FAU is a must for several reasons (market, recruiting, FIU). NIU would be interesting. Would like to see better support at GSU. I still think FAU and MTSU is best long term.

Smitty, Georgia State isn't coming to the CAA. If you recall, they told us their move to the Sunbelt was just a temporary stint before they get their SEC invite.

I have no issue with your school. The only school I have an issue with adding is FAU. I would just personally go in a different direction outside the box. Some here seem more driven to destroy the Sunbelt than to improve (or slow down the bleeding) of CUSA. Someone actually argued for Texas State and FAU and their only point was taking the Sunbelt out of Florida and Texas as if they have any impact whatsoever in Florida and Texas.
You want a big market, large state, highly endowed, and athleticly solid addition?
Look at Delaware.
