Nope.. we had consecutive winning seasons FOREVER... (remember it was the 4th longest streak in the nation), and it didn't matter with the last round. It wouldn't have mattered with this round.

Again, I've been a "please Big12, we've got lots of upside" more so than a "We'd fit right in with the BEast" fan... so I'm probably jaded in that regard.

Thanks, MadEagle. USM deserves better and I have to believe it will work out soon. I never thought ECU would get invited to the BE and it took mass defections and last gasp moves for us to get in then. It is sickening what college football has become in the last six or seven years.

Would be surprised if USM doesn't get a nBE invite soon. Sounds like a lot of activity in the nBE.

I'll be surprised if it does happen. They'd take a community college before they'd take us.

Basically, if we haven't gotten in yet (after the many years of success). What makes anyone think we're going to be a target in the future? We've upped our basketball game over the past 8 years, we've had ONE bad year of football in the last 2 decades.

We're repeatedly in the high 20's to upper 30's in FB attendance (and with spikes into the 40's on occasion)

We just don't have the media market to allow a conference to say "Here's your TV money", no matter what kind of reputation we have.

I tend to agree with this. But a couple of questions are confusing me:

1. I understand that Tulane is in New Orleans and NO is a big media market. But how many people there actually watch Tulane football? Isn't that the key issue on deciding if a media market is valuable?

2. If USM goes to nBE, does that make the NO media market more valuable?

3. If USM stays in C-USA, it will get a share of buyout money from the schools that are leaving. This may help to offset EJ's payout and other costs. But if USM leaves, then it gets no C-USA buyout money and has to come up with its own scratch to pay its own buyout fee. Where's that gonna come from? I guess the idea is that nBE money will make up for it? Better get a bridge loan in the meantime?

Thanks for any help for this confused fan

To all my Eagles fans... let's at least go 2-1 for the day...

1) Fire ellis
2) Suffer through losing our last two "big" rivals
3) Beat Denver in basketball tonight!!!!!!

Quote:If USM stays in C-USA, it will get a share of buyout money from the schools that are leaving. This may help to offset EJ's payout and other costs

Believe it or not, I was thinking about this a little bit ago. The only problem is, when would that money come in?

(Someone claimed that the current President of the Carlyle Group (that owns Wendys' Hamburger chain), was the guy that was putting most (if not all) of the money to buy out EJ's contract. Dunno if it was true or not)

1.Apparently not.

2. The way they seem to model things is very simple. NOLA is considered Tulane territory (in part). USM is not associated with NOLA at all.

3. That's a problem I'd like to have. It could be surmounted. I don't think there's anything preventing athletics from borrowing from the general fund on a short term basis (<1 year). By the time the bill came due, we might have to have obtained a donation, played a money game, or (best of all) cashed a TV money check to cover it. An actual bank loan would never be needed. At least, this is my guess.

Oh we ARE... USM needs to be in. Makes to much sense not to, but then again it's not about the performance on the field sadly.

OK. I guess they don't try to map out the location of alums/families and they just look at the student body.

I still don't see how Tulane football (and basketball) bring in a lot of TV revenue from NOLA for nBE. If USM wouldn't enhance the NOLA TV market, I wonder if La Tech would

Mad...I doubt it will have any impact..but..I fired off an Email to TH this afternoon asking him to continue playing USM and Marshall(home and home) for OCC games. I hope like hell we can continue playing. I respect both programs with a undying devotion.

CF, I have a lot of doubts about that claim.. I've seen a LOT of nasty comments about the state of USM from Louisville fans when I visit the BE board.

and yes, I do read the BE boards, even though I don't participate in their conversations, since my school's not involved in that conference, that's why I get pissed at a bunch of C-USA "fans" when they go over there and trash C-USA as a conference, then come back over here and try to put on all smiley-happy "we'll miss you" posts.

Keep in mind that it does not matter if anyone actually watches Tulane or anyone else on TV. Ratings are irrelevant to TV packages. It is about "potential" viewers. I have the BIG network in NC and have never watched a damn game. I don't know anyone else here that watches it either. I agree...it is crazy. That is just the way the TV business works.
