MyBB Halfway Through Non-Conference
We are now roughly halfway through our non-conference schedule what are your thoughts on the season so far and specifically the trip west this past week.

We have shown we have the ability to be dangerous as seen against Northwestern State when we came from 20 down to almost win the game but then we play play close against D-II Coker and drop games to NC A&T and Northern Arizona.

RE: Halfway Through Non-Conference
We have a lot of talent on our team, especially with Freeman and White. I feel like Freeman should drive a little bit more to make the defense commit to guarding him. He is a great player so he can handle driving in and making a smart decision to either pull up for a jumper or dish it off. White has been dominating in the paint at every game I went to. However, against teams like Iowa State and Cincinnati it is hard for him to dominate because their forwards are massive in comparison (not to mention very skilled).

Our team seems to play up to the talent of the other team in my opinion. Against teams that aren't necessarily known for their basketball teams, we seem to play down to their level. It can be very frustrating to watch because I know we have the talent to destroy the other team.

We are going to need to show up against Gonzaga though. That team is on a role right now, and if we don't play to our fullest potential, we will get decimated. I have very high hopes for our team. I do believe we have the team that can win our conference.

Two players have surprised me: Reco and Hooker. Reco, if he keeps working, can be the next star on this team. He has a great shot and makes good decisions even with a lot of pressure on him. Hooker has a fantastic 3-point shot. I don't know if he is better than Merthie was last year, but I don't know because I haven't seem him play enough to make that judgement.

I hope to see you at the game tomorrow CamelCrazie.

I agree and disagree with your post camelhump. I don't feel like we've necessarily played up to competition, as evidenced by us getting crapped on by the strong teams that we've played thus far. However, I still believe that this team has the talent to win the conference. I also think Freeman needs to be a more aggressive player. If that doesn't happen, I don't think we'll have enough to win the Big South.

That is true that we don't tend to play up to the level of the best teams, which I forgot to write about. Even last year, we struggled against the big teams, but we tended to play much better against them compared to the smaller schools. I don't know if we can hang with the big teams this year honestly. We aren't necessarily playing up to competition like our soccer team, but we are doing the exact opposite, which can be the worst thing that we do all season.

Yeah it can be a bad thing. But at the same time, the competition in our conference is nothing like Cincy or Iowa State, so as long as we can get it together against teams that are more on our level I think we have a shot it.
