It seems DB and Liam are in a bit of an adversarial squabble, if you will. The open nature of the argument, combined with the personal nature of the barbs being exchanged between the two is somewhat analogous to a situation when you are out with another couple and the conversation changes instantly because the other husband and wife begin a heated argument that escalates into the wife making reference to the husbands anatomy deficiencies, and the fact that he watches porn while wearing women's underwear. You watch in cautious amusement for a while; then, after they seem to be done, you clear your throat, and attempt to change the conversation back to the original subject.

Very much a leap of interpretation, I'm thinking it's wishful on his part. He seems frustrated and angry, falling back to his teenage ways when homophobic rants were the norm.
