RE: Returning Starters for Next Year
I believe Reaves would have had 1500 yards with some help early in the season.

There is a player that I won't mention, that hasn't played much, yet it appears while he was in at LB he was decent. I saw him get into a game or two.

Just wondering if there is any potential for him to play more next year.

He is entering his upper class years of eligibility.

Not sure if you remember, but he tore his MCL (I believe) in the middle of the season at practice. He should be back in the spring.

I didn't get the memo. I was wondering why he wasn't out there.

I was very impressed with his output.

I like Franklin, but wow.

Who was the starter from spring ball? I know Reaves was hurt then. Who was the starter from fall camp. Who started just about the first three games. I was one of the first to call for Reaves to start ,but that was due to the Oline. Reaves can get a extra yard or two falling forward that Franklin couldn't. If the line was better and getting to the second level cleanly Franklin burst and vision would show and he could break some long runs or resemble the Franklin/Reaves backfield from Callaway's last season.

Yes, Franklin started the first 3 games. Who started the last nine? Reaves fell forward for over a thousand yards this year, (only the second UAB running back to do that, ever) which included splitting time with Franklin the first three games.

He was also the team's 4th leading receiver with over 300 yards and a TD.

Look at averages I guess not to look like a stats guy. Five yards a pop, 15 a catch with 2 receiving. I would bring up Reaves being the first back since Pat Green I think to go for over 1,000 yards its kinda embarassing.

Well, Coach McGee appears to agree with me on the subject.

Yes, Franklin averaged 5.0 yards a carry, while Reaves managed a paltry 4.82.

Pat Green never rushed for 1,000 yards in one season. He went for about 600-850 per year for 4 years, so he is the leading rusher all-time, but never 1,000 in one season.

The other RB to do it was Carl Sanders in 1996.

At that time, we were more of a passing team as well if I recall.

Can't remember without looking if Pat played on the same teams as Whitcomb or not, but Dieter had us tossing the ball around quite a bit.

Reaves has cemeted himself as the #1 back & as long as he's healthy & grades/off field stuff stay ok, he'll stay there & Coles/Franklin will be the backups. Franklin is more of a 3rd down back where you throw it out to him in open space w/ him 1-1 on a LB plus he's one of our KR so that's going to be his role. Coles is that change of pace back that you throw in after Reaves has beat up on the D some.

My bad you're right I got the two mixed up.

I know thats how we used them and with Franklin thats one of his best attributes. I like all our RB's actually, I think we will have a three headed monster next season ,but I just feel that if the line was where the staff wanted it to be at Greg wouldve excelled earlier in the season. Darrin had to fight for most of his yards as he's a bit bigger he did an excellent job. Just going from the start of the 2012 season til its end the RB's was one of the position battles I watched the most.
