And some posture (and not very convincing mind you) why schools want out of the Sun Belt.

I don't know why.... maybe they are just too cheap or lazy to pull their share of the load to make the conference as a whole more valuable as a TV product. It's not like the commissioner can just call up ESPN and demand a better venue.

Not pointing a finger at either ASU or MT here; both of you generally have a good product on the field and are at or near the top of the conference in attendance. But when important conference games are played on TV in front of fans disguised as empty bleachers, what incentive does ESPN have to put any SBC game on the Deuce?

We all have our attendance problems, some more than others, but we need to find a way to fix that if we ever want better TV exposure. Moving to a 'better' conference doesn't help if you are still entertaining empty stadia when you get there. Not to mention that more TV money does not necessarily equal better TV exposure.

I guess what I am saying is that the problem isn't the conference, it is US; the schools and fans, who are responsible.

Couldn't disagree more. This one is on the Belt. This is on the conference. ESPN 3. I'd rather be on the Food Network....

RE: Championship game
If we had an actual set Conference Championship Game it probably would be set up to be played on ESPN2 on a Tues/Wed/Thursday/Friday night.

But we don't have a Conference Championship Game. It just happened this year that the two teams w/ the best conference record are playing the last week of the year.

This wouldn't have been the "championship game" if TROY would have beaten MTSU this weekend. ESPN2 already has their schedule set for Saturday. Do they tell the teams saturday night after the MTSU win that "oh, by the way, you will be playing on Wednesday night." Also, do they go and and tell the teams they have scheduled for that night, "sorry, we are bumping you?"

If we had an actual SBC Championship game that was scheduled for some night this week, I am sure ESPN2 wouldve picked it up.

But it is not, and they did not.

If we had the Sun Belt Network we could have shopped it around. It should be in the ESPN contract that any game that is not on the network can be broadcast elsewhere.

I'm sure Tubby had that in a Memorandum of Understanding.

There are other options, but ESPN is being d-bags.

RE: Championship game
Once we have a real SBC Championship Game not one that happens to fall at the end of the regular season, it will be aired.

But most on here (me included) do not want a Championship game. Look how much $$ CUSA lost last year by having a championship game. The MAC also has a chance to loose out on a ton of money this year by having a championship game.

So until we are forced into having one I say to keep it like it is.

I expected it to end up on ESPNU at the very least. Definitely disappointing.

Agree . . the SBC does not have a championship game . . I see no reason why ESPN should rearrange a preset TV schedule to show a regular season SBC game at the last minute.

Go stAte . . Go SBC !! 02-13-banana

They are showing Poker. 03-banghead It's just sad that no one, even regionally wants to pick this game up. This game was very much a possibility several weeks ago.

They rearrange stuff midseason all the time. We've had games moved to fit their needs before.

It's a full day of college basketball on ESPNU that's keeping us off television.

RE: Championship game
Everyone is making good points. It's unreasonable to expect ESPN to bounce a pre established basketball game on any of their networks; however, other options exist.

1. ESPN could have set this up as a regional broadcast. It would have been shown on the networks that have a relationship with ESPN such as CSS.

2. ESPN could have aired the game on ESPN Classic. ESPN could have even contracted MT's student run truck to do the game if they didn't have or want to expend any in-house ESPN resources.

3. ESPN could have released the rights allowing a Regional Sports Network such as Fox Sports South to pick it up.

Instead, ESPN did none of these things, but joy we can watch it on the f'n internet. They would not release the rights and they wouldn't lift a finger to make anything happen. The league tried, but like I said ESPN (as usual) is being d-bags acting like they're doing us a favor for even carrying it on ESPN3. But from a macro perspective this is the league's fault for not having a contingency to deal with this. Why do we let ESPN dictate our entire schedules, move everything around and then not allow for the possibility for having the game exercised on a six day option like they do many other games they televise? That answer is obvious.

Damn good post. ESPN effed us by moving that home game with Miss. State to 10:30 am (or whatever time it was).

If there is indeed a timeslot we could have played in on any of their networks that is currently airing poker that is pathetic, but ESPNU has basketball games from noon on, ESPN2 has a mix of football and basketball, ESPN has some football, if they're showing poker in our existing time slot I wonder if it's due to the SEC championship being aired at the same time. Even though they aren't the ones showing it, maybe due to their contracts with the SEC they can't or don't want to put anything opposite that game? Little else makes sense.
