RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
I have absolute faith in JN. He did't come here to rebuild the program only to let it sink back to the dump. As much as we sing praises to him, I'm standing behind the idea that he probably already has this figured out and that it was figured out soon after we beat Rutgers. I'm sure there are also 5 different contingency plans. Either way, I expect big things from our team in a year.

The question is how long does JN stay? With the success we have had in multiple sports, I could see him gone sometime.

Good point. One thing we have in our favor is that JN's girls are pretty well established at Kent Roosevelt. His family seems pretty happy here. Think it would take a big school to pull him away while his daughters are in high school.

But for the right job, you never know.

If there is anything we learned at Kent State from 10 years of basketball success, is that fact of the MAC. It sucks and it makes me like college coaches as much as I like lawyers.

So, since you know now, where's he going? Don't wait until something is announced, tell us since you seem to be certain.

Just to add to Danny's comment 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland also says he is in San Francisco today interviewing at California. Once it goes public like that it usually is very close to a done deal. Only a last minute snag in the negotiations will stop it.

RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
Living here in the Bay Area- I can say that Cal would be a great fit for Coach Hazell although his name has never been mentioned locally in the search. Mostly the discussion has been about names both pro assistants and college HC here in the area. The Old Blues and the papers have talked about wanting to get a "name" but the administration seems to be mostly unhappy about the low academic standing of the team members under Tedford. I think Tedford might have been able to survive this year if not for that. Hazell definitively fits the bill for them. Anyway, they have a new stadium but their other facilities are somewhat under the leaders of the conference. Tedford made big $$ so money should not be a problem. If anywhere, I always thought the B1G was going to pick up Hazell but hey it is Bezerkly where anything can happen.

None of us likes or wants this for our program, but it is good for Coach Hazell and might just be good to see what other up and coming young coach might be looking at us. I am still however, hoping for a miracle return to KSU for one more year. There's a sucker born every minute.....

RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
A few Notre Dame and Ohio State assistants have good ties in Ohio and will be hot commodities this offseason. Can JN get 1 of them to come to Kent State?

RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
AND...the other question is, can we hang on to some of the recruits Coach Hazell has committed. Pay particular attention to the bolded and underlined sections in this news story...

Kent State adds running back recruit from Lancaster, Pa.
By Jonas Fortune Published: December 1, 2012

HERSHEY, PA: Kent State football may not be seeing orange this bowl season. But recruits are already seeing a greener future for the Golden Flashes.

Lancaster Catholic (Lancaster, Pa.) senior running back Roman Clay verbally committed to Kent State Friday, hours before the Golden Flashes played in the Mid-American Conference Championship game.

“It was the winning that kind of sold me. They were (other) great schools and I would have loved to play for any of them. But the winning at Kent State, got me sold,” Clay said Friday night at Hersheypark Stadium, where he was in attendance for the District 3, Class AAA championship game between Bishop McDevitt and West York.

The 5-10, 215-pound senior, three-star recruit, is well aware of the Kent State’s hollow football history, but sees nothing but positives going forward as Kent State readies for its first bowl game since 1973.

“After talking with my mom, I realized it was a great opportunity for me. Their football team is on the rise and I just wanted to be a part of something special,” Clay said. “The thing is, they are going to keep winning with Coach (Darrell) Hazell making the calls. Hopefully he stays and I can have a great time playing for him.”

Last year, Clay helped lead Lancaster Catholic to its second Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association “AA” state title in three years by rushing for 1,899 yards and a school-record 32 touchdowns. The 5-10, 215-pound back rushed for about 2,440 yards and 30 touchdowns this season.

Kent State’s rushing-intensive offense this season was also appealing to Clay. Junior Dri Archer and sophomore Trayion Durham each rushed for over 1,000 yards this year for the Flashes.

Clay received his offer early on from Kent State and also had offers from at least five others, including UMass, Towson and Delaware. After a Sept. 1 performance where Clay set a district 3 rushing record with 442 yards and six touchdowns on 22 carries against Dallastown (Pa.), Clay began to grab even more attention.

He visited Penn State in Oct. and visited UCONN too, but was already leaning toward Kent State after his visit on Sept. 28.

“I had a great time,” Clay said. “The coaches there love me. The atmosphere was crazy. The football players were real nice. I just loved everything about it. I just knew it was the place for me and I felt at home when I was there.”

The influence of coach Hazell was also clear.

No Notre Dame coaches, please!! .... Yeah, I understand why Hazell would leave - an AQ-BSC program, better conference, lots more money (but as I mentioned previously, staying at Kent State he would still be in the infamous "1%"), but it gets more and more difficult for me to "suspend disbelief" and pretend that college sports matter to me anymore, or sports in general, for that matter.

RE: Hazell Sweepstakes
The question becomes, if Hazell leaves, how much will JN/LL increase the new head coaches/assistant coaches salary pool?
