Something is up folks, both students and reserved tickets are still available on coxtix. Additionally, that's before Coastal returns us any tickets (which they surely will). I'm wondering if people (and students) assume we have sold-out and haven't bothered to look or try.

You can't call it the pit anymore. The politically correct term for those that are to weak to carry drums is the "front ensemble"

They f'ed up the ticketing process and put the student tickets on sale almost 2 hours late. Students tickets have been available only since 11 this morning (So less than 3 hours at this point)

Oh okay, I missed that email. Logged in late (thanks to a work meeting running extremely long) to grab my tix and was shocked to see I could still get guest tickets, let alone there being no limit to the amount I could buy.

This was on their facebook status "Student tickets for Saturday's FCS playoff game against Coastal Carolina are now available! Playoff tickets are free to students and as many $20 "guest" tickets can be purchased in addition to the student ticket."

Technically, the tickets aren't free. We (students) pay handsomely for them with our tuition, itemized as an activity fee. Currently, students pay $40.35 per credit hour (LINK) for athletics. For a full-time student taking 15 hours per semester and not taking summer classes, that adds up to $1210.50 per year (Or $605.25 for one basketball season ticket and $605.25 for one football ticket).

There is no additional cost for playoff games and guest tickets are $20 (up from $15 in 2011).

RE: Coastal Carolina
Last year the first 1000 playoff tickets vs. NSU were "free", the rest cost $5.

All student tickets seem to be free this year but only in sections 112 and 113 (the endzone seats) or at least that's where the guest ticket I bought says you can sit.

RE: Coastal Carolina
It was announced yesterday that ODU faculty and staff can buy tickets for $5 per person. As a season-ticket holder who paid $20 per ticket, I'm not too happy about them underselling the tickets to anyone. At least wait until later in the week and assess the situation before low-balling the tickets.

Not sure you get to pay the minimum after you bid higher ... That'd be interesting to confirm.

RE: Coastal Carolina
I totally agree with Monarchfan4life. I'm beginning to feel like the school is not being totally upfront in terms of tickets. The following series of data points do not add up:

(1) The school has publically said on a number of occasions that Foreman Field seats in excess of 20,000 fans (I've seen the numbers 20,400 and 20,800 published by the school and referenced in numerous news articles).
(2) The school has repeatedly stated that every home game has been sold out since our first game in the 2009 season.
(3) Season ticket holders each received a letter dated November 19 from the Sr. Assistant Athletic Director indicating that "currently 11,364 or our 14,134 football seats are tied to an ODAF gift, and we have approximately 4,500 members on our football waiting list."
(4) Presumably a certain number of seats are also set aside for the band, for students, for the families of the football players, and for visting team. Hard to imagine that the sum of these "set asides" amounts to over 6,000 seats per game.
(5) Season ticket holders were sent an email on November 15 indicating that we had until November 16 to purchase playoff tickets. A later email indicated that addtional tickets were available and then another email indicated that 2,700 tickets were then available to the general public. Now I see that the faculty and administration are getting discount tickets at $5 when season ticket holders had to pay $20 per ticket plus a one time processing fee.
(6) The school facebook page indicates that "Student tickets for Saturday's FCS playoff game against Coastal Carolina are now available! Playoff tickets are free to students and as many $20 "guest" tickets can be purchased in addition to the student ticket."
(7) I'm greatly confused and wonder how this is being "managed" by the school?

#1. This season they started giving 500 more tickets to students bc of possible no-shows. This explains both the boost in attendance over 20,000 and capacity moving over 100%. That doesn't mean they all show up, it just means over 100% of the tickets were sold/claimed.
#2. See #1
#3 Put simply 11,364 or the 14,134 season tickets involve a donation to ODAF. Hint, hint.. the remainder (2,770) risk losing their seats in the off-season as there are plenty of potential STHs that [may] donate to ODAF. In short, donate or risk losing your seats.
#4. A huge portion of that 6,000 goes to students, our ever-increasing band and the visiting fans. Once you take that portion out, there really isn't much left.
#5. 2700 of the seats weren't claimed by STHs for whatever reason. They believe faculty and staff are worthy of a discount due to all they do to help ODU on a daily basis. It also helps guarantee that there will be no unused seats, insuring they make $5 on those seats instead of $0.
#6. A non-issue. Students pay for their tickets with student fees ($40.35 per credit hour). Repeat, they are not free.
#7. I hope this helps and hope ODU can manage to sell all of the remaining tickets to continue the sell-out streak.

The exact amount for the student section is 3,598. I don't know if that includes the student guest tickets.

RE: Coastal Carolina
Here is what I don't understand. Have those 2700 tix been made available to the people on the waiting list and this is what's left over? It's always been my understanding that they get first dibs after the sth's have turned them down. If this is the case, then by all accounts the tickets have been offered to over 28000 people (14000+ sth's and 13500 on the waiting list). If we have 2700 tix still available after all of that then I'm afraid we may be vastly overestimating how many people we would actually put in a 35000 seat stadium. It also makes me wonder if there is a good portion of people on the waiting list that aren't really serious about buying tickets. Then again, I may be completely wrong about this.

My step-mom signed up for the waiting list so she could get alerted to buy tickets when they become available. I don't think she's received an email yet?

Not sure why but these tickets were never exclusive to waiting list members. These tickets didn't require a password, unlike all of the other tickets that were released this season to people on the waiting list. Also, the amount of tickets released is really close to the number of season ticket holders that didn't make an ODAF donation. Did they not offer them the seats bc of their lack of a donation?

I don't think they've done a good job alerting folks that seats were still available. Apart from the one email I received last Tuesday about them releasing the 2700 tickets, I haven't seen anything else. And had I not been on the message board, I probably would have missed that email.

RE: Coastal Carolina
The AD has stated a number of times that season ticket holders who are not ODAF will not lose their season tickets but will not be able to select their seats. He has mention on the radio that he was looking in to the ODAF calling season ticket holder last spring telling them they will lose their season tickets if they don’t donate. Wood also said that about 500 season ticket holders per year dont renew/move away/ die off.

The letter sent out on Monday, November 19, 2012 in paragraph 3 states that donating allows you to pick your seat based on points/donations.

I got the call last spring, the person said my $1000 donation wouldn’t be enough to insure my season tickets for 2013 and was pushing hard for my credit card for a $2000 donation.
