At the start of the year, I broke our schedule out into a few groups:
The guaranteed losses(USC, OSU, Tulsa)
The games we had a chance in, but more often than not we'd lose(ECU, Marshall, Houston, UCF)
The games I'd say we were 50/50 or better to win.(USM, Tulane, Memphis, SELA, Troy)
By simply looking at it this way, I assumed 7 wins was the ceiling for this team. Because we are UAB, I assumed we would win at least one of the middle games, and lose at least one of the bottom games. Obviously, UAB played very well against Tulsa and ECU, but those moral victories don't count at the end of the season. All in all, I feel this was a pretty fair assessment before the season, and suggesting this team could get to 6-6 before the season was fair. A few bounces here and there, and this team could have been 6-6. Showing up for the Memphis and Tulane games also would have helped.
I think those who were legitimately predicting a record much beyond 6-6 before the season were buying into McGee's hype too much. I know I kept bringing it up before the season, and it irritated some on here, but there was just too much going against the team this year to have any kind of real success. I think next year is going to be tough as well, but the team will be much more experienced. I just hope McGee finds a way to a Bowl Game, because if he doesn't people are going to start wondering if he's simply all talk.
