and yet some miner fans (on other boards, etc) think this is a weak hire due to the fact he has never been a HC. I didn't know that the book of the football "gods" in chaper 5, verse 6 stated:
"thou shalt had been a master (head) coach for 3 years, no less."

Well, I've always thought some head coaching experience, even at a lower level, would be a good thing.

Feel confident that Kugler will be an excellent coach but people would have found fault if we had hired Chris Petersen.

With the exception of Graham (1 year at Rice) we have been doing pretty well with no HC experience. Hiring Kragthorpe and Blankenship. An argument could be made for Graham as well as he would have been our HC regardless of leaving for Rice.

It can only help. Price is sticking around in El Paso as a program "friend". So anything Kugler can add, would only be a gain.

Good luck to him.... As a young player, I'd be afraid of not working hard in practice. He looks like he can pick a player up off the ground up by the neck.

Has never even been a coordinator. Lifetime position coach. Good luck...

He will probably be fine if he can bring in coordinators with experience. If he brings in a bunch of guys who are green you will see ELLLOS and John Thompson vs 3.0

Sounds accurate.

If I'm him, I'd look at bringing in an offensive coordinator (maybe even a former NFL/college QB), who is well-versed in running an offense.

You'd think someone that was...
Defensive Coordinator - Clemson
Defensive Coordinator - Alabama
Defensive Coordinator - Mississippi State
Defensive Coordinator - South Carolina
Defensive Coordinator - Auburn

would make a great head coach, wouldn't you?

Instead, he went 0-12.

One can coordinate failure, or one can coordinate success.

In the end, it is all just the sum of one's commitment and education mixed with a little luck, providence, and gin.

I'm concerned about the defensive effort/coaching by Washington State. The record, and number of points teams hung on Wash St, is not very reassuring.

Yeah, well, being an O-line coach didn't hurt Mike Munchak.

I'd take an O-lineman (they have brains) with local connections over a special teams guy, that much is for sure.

Besides, UTEP's passing game was quite lousy this year, even with CUSA defense being what it is (52.7% completion? GTFO with that nonsense.), so it'd be nice if Kugs gets a running game going that's worth a flip...
