Invite 'em BOTH
If we are going to 16 at some point, invite both Louisville and UConn.

You could make a schedule work if you counted games vs. ND as conference games. Not a bad idea.

ESPN has asked us to take those teams recently. I'm betting we could get money to cover it.

Gentlemen, please... let's THINK about these divisions for a moment!

FSU is 10-1
Clemson is 10-1
Louisville is 10-1

You guys are putting all 3 in the same division... are you NUTS?
Divisions MUST be re-balanced!

People are freaking out, this is better than we had last week.

In terms of talent/marketability, we actually have a better TV package. The only blow in terms of conference payout is that ESPN will be more reluctant to commit to a huge amount, because there is a chance that the rainmakers will leave. A higher buyout, or a GOR would fix that, and we could get a substantially better deal than we have right now.

That said, I don't see Syracuse, Pitt, Clemson, FSU, Georgia Tech, Miami, UNC, VPI, or UVA agreeing to a higher buyout.

If RU and UMD don't deliver the NYC and D.C. markets respectively, then SU and UVA could be next in line, so they aren't going to vote for it. There is a chance that PSU will bring Pitt in one o ftheir places, so Pitt won't vote for it. FSU and Clemson will want to keep a departure to the Big XII as a viable option if things go south. Georgia Tech, Pitt (again), and Miami might feel the same way about the Big XII. Then VTech and UNC might will likely be hesitant to shut the wondow on a departure to the SEC.

NC ST could go either way. They have a shot at the SEC, but it is a long shot. So, I don't know if they would vote in favor of a higher exit fee or not.

WF, Duke, and BC are the only sure votes for it.

Personally, I like the ACC and hope that it holds together as is. The academics are great, and there is a ton of potential. The idea of getting steam rolled by giant midwestern public degree mill/football academies is just not appealing to me.

Yeah, but Louisville isn't a top 15 team, top 20-25 at best.

If there are no more defections, I'm definitely fine with this.

Heck check with Texas to see if they want the same deal as ND. 03-wink

Cheers,

The problem for the ACC is that we are at the bottom of the major conferences in terms of TV dollars. B1G figures to get even bigger dollars from their TV network, especially when they get on the TV cable packages in New Jersey and Maryland. I wonder whether they will try to get on the New York city cable. They are getting close with PSU, Rutgers and Maryland. Pac-12, SEC and Big XII all make considerably larger amounts of money than the ACC and figure to increase that advantage as they start their own networks (or at least the Pac12 does). The ACC can realistically only target Big East teams and get them:
- UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, USF, or UCF.

It seems that a couple of ACC schools may be in play:
- Syracuse and Virginia or VT to the B1G if they want to try to get their B1G TV network on the cable listings for New York City and Washington DC
- The Big XII may decide to pick up Louisville or FSU or Clemson now that they can offer considerably more money than the ACC can.
- Will the SEC sit back and watch the B1G and Big XII expand? Who knows but I suspect their management is more proactive ?
- Notre Dame better think twice about some of these scenarios that could play out and end up without their "East Coast" access if Syracuse or Virginia/VT leave for the B1G.

Gentlemen? Where?

Divisions should be Reworked each year or two so you don't have your top 2 teams knocking each other out of major bowl/NC picture.

RE: Invite 'em BOTH
And how do you plan for that every year? Why not the "Old Big East Division" vs the ACC division. It's pretty much the logical geographic split anyway and preserves the rivalries the most.

Dividing along BE/ACC lines is asking for a split. It is also more of a scheduling agreement than a conference.

The coaches and media rank the teams at the beginning of each year. Use those rankings to seed the divisions. Keep the divisions for two years so everyone has a home/home.

Perfect? No. It does address some issues. Maybe some variation or some combination might work.

I was kidding of course. I hope UConn is not invited to join the ACC.
At this point Louisville is the only logical choice.

UL beat USF by 2 points, S Miss by 4, Cin by 3, FIU by 7 and UNC by 5. They just lost to SU on 11/10 45-26.
