Sad Mike Price was the best coach UTEP had in a long time
Mike Price was the best coach UTEP had in a long time. After 1968 UTEP had only five winning seasons. Before Price came along UTEP had only 1, 2, or 3 win seasons before he came along. Only current atheltic director Bob Stull (except Gary Nord's 2000 season) had success prior to Price.

Mike Price brought out pride to the Miner fan community when he would come out holding out the pick axe high above leading the Miner football team out of the "Mine Shaft". No other coach that I can recall ever brought out that much pride to pump up the fans to excitement like Price. He supposedly once dressed as a miner coming out with the "Miners Fight" song booming in the Sun Bowl riding a truck to pump up his players.

I don't expect UTEP to ever get another big name coach, I fear now UTEP could go back to those awful seasons as Price had more wins than any previous coach between him and Bob Stull.

I rather he would retire than be fired.

Price is endorsing defensive coordinator Andre Patterson as his successor for head coach.

Price also says he is willing to stay as a booster and supporter of UTEP athletics but doesn't want to be an athletic director.

Goodbye Coach Price, thank you so much for boosting up pride for Miner fans.

Wasn't Andre Patterson popping off at UTEP fans about placing pressure on Price?

He hadn't been here the previous 6-7 years, and he felt he had insight to evaluate the entire relationship. He didn't make a good impression in my book.

SOunds like he is on the interview listing, but maybe he is just the G Ray Johnson of UTEP Fball.

Mike Price was a victim of his own success.

He won more games per season than anyone had seen at UTEP for a long time.

He raised the bar for expectations at UTEP.

Now people are not satisfied with 4 or 5 wins a year.

Thankfully, UTEP fans are starting to expect more from their University.
