Not real sure what to make of it. Is the coach an ass or is the kid just entitled?

I think I'd give a guy who walked-on for 3 years and was your leading receiver the benefit of the doubt.

Looks like the kid is working on an English project.

He probably didn't put that much effort into an actual English project.

As bad as the situation may have been for him, he just totally f'ed up any more opportunities elsewhere.

This will come back to haunt him - in job interviews, etc.
He may not even be able to find a place to transfer to.

Disclaimer though: I am not familiar with the situation, just speculating.

Yeah, taking his grievances out in such a public way was not a wise move.

That's what I was talking about, even though I had no clue about his on the field performance.

He has just made it more difficult to find somewhere else to go.

He will find a school. May not be like Minnesota, but somebody will take him... He's paying his own way.

Paying his own way isn't the issue, acting like an ass is.

If I were paying my own way; and leading the team in receptions and yardage; and the coach is telling me there is no way I earn a scholarship; I would be an ass too.

After reading his tumblr blog, Everything was probably OK until the coach called him out in front of the team to make an example of him. Except the coach forgot the kid is a walk-on. Now the coach is getting his public humiliation returned 10 fold.

I'll type slowly.

It isn't about what happens or doesn't happen at Minnesota.

It is about where he goes and what he does from here.

Everyone has been screwed over in life at times. It is how you handle it that matters.

Something you seem to be missing :

THE KID IS/WAS FED UP FOR QUITE A BIT OF TIME. 03-idea

I'm sure he was very tired of being told he wasn't worthy.

The coach was biting the hand that was feeding him.

And the hand bit back.

Leave then. Leave. Go somewhere else.

I'm not saying he wasn't done wrong. He probably was.

Openly whaling on it does nothing for his future opportunities.

When he tries to transfer somewhere, his whaling will come up.

When he applies for a job, the whaling will come up.

He has done more damage to himself by the way he responded to it than what was done to him in the first place.

It's "wailing". Unless his name is Ishmael.

Hey, it passed spell checker.

I knew it didn't look right.

I guess I haven't read the good book of Matthew enough.
