I like McGee. I think he's just the breath of fresh air our program has sorely needed. I'm still scratching my head about Saturday, though, and feel a little better about McGee saying he'd learned something from it.

That said, he's a well-paid professional, drawing a salary that I contributed to, and he can expect some scrutiny.

Are you "scratching your head" or aren't you?

Make up that thing that you are scratching.

That goes for your little dog too!

My apologies for adjusting my position based on new sensory input. I'll try to lock it in and dig in next time.

Basically finebaum said ''Boy, has Mcgee and that team been a wreck''. "I mean they did beat USM but they are winless so that win doesnt count. But losing to memphis, really? I know he has takin full responsibility for the poor perfomances. But telling others that your players suck. Is that how you want your coach
to act?"

Something close to that?

I have a problem with the poor performances, but i have no problem with him telling us the truth and owning up to poor coaching and mistakes.

The next complimentary thing Pondscum says about UAB's football program will be the first.

The Marshall game wasn't a fluke, nor was the Tulsa game.

It shows that we can do it.

We just need to show that we can do it consistently.

Of course the Ohio State game is forgotten by the scum for some reason.

I keep going back to USM & even Auburn for cases where losing impacts attendance.

It certainly isn't just something unique at UAB.

We just have mastered it longer than other that we are compared to.

I was at the OHIO state game and UAB look good because OHIO state run very limited play ,,,They didnt show anything on offense When they NEED To score ,,,they let the qb run and he burn us every time
if the qb had run at will ,,,he will had score 7 or more td
He was fun for a UAB fans ,,,,but everybody knew that ohio state was asleep most of the game
The best win for UAB was marshall and I can guarantee you that it was marshall worse game ...etc
Next YEAR will be better because he cannot be worse

Don't know if you know this, but the QB does not play defense. You see, he is an OFFENSIVE player. He gets to play when our team has the ball. Defense plays when the other team has the ball. Soooooo, when the other team has the ball and is scoring, Brown is not on the field. Understand?

OK carry on.

I think the discussion begins with the fact that he is the leader on our offense, which never drove down the field to give our defense a rest. But coach mcgee was the one calling the plays. So the Memphis loss does not solely fall on the defenses performance, but also the lack of sustainable drives by the offense. No AB is not the reason we gave up 46 points, but is a part of the reason why defense spent so much time on the field. Is that the argument that is being discussed?

The players respect him as well as AB & would respond to him.

We need to do everything we can to end on a positive note.

This past weekend really really sucked.

Not sure the players respect Perry near as much as AB. It makes me 03-puke every time I look at the bench and Perry is sitting on his butt with a towel on his head pouting. He is not a true leader like AB. If AB was benched, I am 100% sure he would have the head phones on calling in the plays like the other QBs. I don't even think coach can trust Perry to do that. I might be very misguided on this. Its just by opinion.

This. That. And the other.

As I said, no one can argue that McGee didn't give JP every chance...and that was when AB was on the sideline quoting chapter and verse from the playbook to McGee (when JP couldn't tell McGee what just happened in the previous play he just ran when coming off the field). From what I understand, since losing the job, JP has done nothing to EARN his way back on the field. AB and the rest of the offense are getting game-speed reps and I think that's enough to keep McGee from HANDING JP the privilege.

If AB is injured as badly as some here say he is, then it doesn't make sense to keep playing him, no matter how little the coach thinks of his backup, does it?

Did it occur to people that given that AB is all we have (and the fact that Perry got a chance before him) that coach has no other card to play than expressing confidence in him?

And did it further occur to people that despite these assurances we are not locked in to AB for the rest of our natural lives should coach manage to secure someone better in the off season?

Things that make you go "hmmm"

Well, it's a learning experience.

Coach has learned how us "other half" live. And it ain't so good all the time.

It has been a rather radical adjustment for him no doubt and what many of us call "mistakes" are for him WTF moments where he is left wondering why we can't execute on stuff that would be simple business at a program like the Arkansas...

While he adjusts his sights we need to get over ourselves.

I think this coach actually can move us places. If you whining a-holes drag him down to our level he'll never have an opportunity to pull us up to his.

In order to be the "right man" for the program, he has to be able to admit his mistakes, and rectify them. So far, he has not shown that ability. Even good qb's get pulled when they are doing poorly. But not AB. Coach McGee is good at PR, but he has yet to show he is good at being head coach.

Didn't he name JP starter? Wasn't he on the field long enough for us to ***** and complain that something wasn't "clicking"? Didn't he eventually turn the job over to AB? I could have sworn all that happened...which would involve McGee admitting his mistake and rectifying it. That's just one example. Has there been a week this season where McGee expressed even a hint of "well, I got my **** together, but these kids just suck"?

You answered your own question. Whatever McGee does or doesn't know, I'm pretty confident he knows the full extent of AB's injury. I'm extremely confident that AB's long-term, physical well-being is not at risk. That said, it's not just about how little the coach thinks of his backup...the opinion of the other coaches and players matters, too.

Since I'm in Charlotte and therefore, apparently, only allowed to be informed about things in my geographic bubble, take a look at Cam Newton and the Panthers this season. Cam had bad games in 2011 and he had a horrible attitude when he had those games, but he was a rookie and extremely talented so the only public signs of strife were brief spats on the sideline (and Cam was riding the wave of being the Next Greatest Thing so his down times weren't so bad). In 2012, however, his attitude has poisoned the entire team. When he sucks, the whole team gives up because he's going to pout and brood and ruin a perfectly good Sunday. But even when he has a good series or quarter, or an excellent play, nobody cares. Steve Smith even went public to try to get the message across that the QB, of all players, can't sulk on the sidelines in front of everyone and expect it not to affect the team.

I agree that if AB absolutely couldn't go we would probably see Bento. JP clearly "un-earned" his place on the field (we all saw that so I don't think there's much argument). I think it's just as clear that he hasn't done anything to "re-earn" leading the team on the field to this point (at least that's my understanding, but I also think it's pretty damn clear).

There would have to be a ridiculous string of at least a half-dozen people being almost criminally incompetent if AB was being allowed to play while risking the rest of his playing career...and that's not including his Momma and Dad.

I understand that point - at least it acknowledges that JP's issues are his own and not just McGee's stubbornness - but AB didn't lose the Memphis game and Bento wasn't going to win it. That being the case, there are 21 other players on offense - just counting 2-deep at each position - who clearly still need reps in this system. Assuming AB is not being sent out there at risk of life and/or limb, there's no logic in putting those other 21 players on a rotation of 5 running plays and 3 basic routes. There are other coaches, too, that need to see our WRs get their routes/timing down, our OLine calling and executing the right blocking schemes, and our RBs hitting holes or picking up blitzes.

I think, BG - and this is just my humble opinion as I try not to learn who most of our posters are in real life (it's just a lot more depressing when you can put a face to an ******* *cough* MB *cough*) - that there are some real JP fans on the board. Hell, I'm one of them. He played through some tough circumstances with an outspoken love for UAB. Most of them recognize that AB overtook JP in McGee's system, but I don't think they can square the JP we got to know the last two seasons with a player who would react so badly to losing his spot that McGee would believe - as obviously he does - that he's not even doing enough to sniff the field on Saturdays. But the alternative theory, that McGee is an unreasonably stubborn fool who refuses to admit he's wrong, doesn't square with what we've seen from him. At all.

Maybe McGee doesn't want to openly reveal (on the field) what is happening behind the scenes.

Putting Bento out there would openly reveal that JP isn't really the backup anymore.

I have no idea on the extent of AB's injury either, however if the doctors say that he can play that is good enough for me.

It still looks bad though.
