That was a reference to the comically high scoring Chiefs/Rams game last night... it was like a Big 12 game.

Though I assumed it was utter garbage apparently it was actually a joke. Damn and I just wanted some good realignment thread bs for a couple days.

(11-17-2012 05:50 PM)Bearcat_Bounce Wrote:  Sources have told ESPN.com that the Big Ten is in serious discussions with Maryland about adding the Terrapins as the league's 13th member.

If that occurs, the Big Ten would likely then turn to Rutgers as its 14th school. From our story:
"A source told ESPN.com that the Big Ten has been itchy about further expansion since Notre Dame made its official move to the ACC two months ago in all sports other than football. The source said the Big Ten can justify Maryland and then possibly Rutgers since they are all contiguous states to the Big Ten footprint.

"One source told ESPN.com that [Maryland president Wallace] Loh and [Maryland athletic director Kevin ] Anderson don't have ACC ties so there wouldn't be a strong emotional pull to stay with the conference. Loh is a former provost at Big Ten member Iowa. ...

"Both Maryland and Rutgers are members of the AAU (Association of American Universities), something vital to Big Ten presidents. The addition of the two East Coast schools would dramatically stretch the Big Ten's footprint. With Maryland holding down the Beltway, Rutgers offering up the New York market and Penn State the league has a solid anchor in the mid-Atlantic states.

"Maryland and Rutgers would also make the nation's richest conference even wealthier. Last season, each Big Ten school received a record $24.6 million in shared revenue, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. One source said the success of the Big Ten Network is an intriguing factor for Maryland."

This would obviously be huge news, but this story is still developing. Check back for updates as we have more information.

When the day comes that we rejoin a power conference, we should make a "word cloud" of this 18,000+ post thread and print it on posters or t-shirts. 03-lmfao

This is a word cloud of a Reddit thread of an NBA finals game, for an idea of what I'm talking about:

I was really hoping for some realignment speculation to get us through the football offseason. January-August can get pretty boring without UC Football.

Even after the next round of realignment and we're in a new conference with Louisville, Iowa St., WV and all of the other realignment losers, I say every year on the date it's founded we all come here to ponder and reflect. Kind've like an online thanksgiving.

RE: All Things Realignment
The UCF crowd may have launched this speculation during their euphoria from the past week's limelight and it simply reverberates in these internet echo chambers.

Seems to me, the Big 12 is the only P5 option for UCF. The ACC has a full boat in the Florida market and I can't imagine the SEC feels the need to add a second fiddle to the Gators and divide loyalties in what is already the best football conference; one that owns superior TV rights and revenues in those markets.

When realignment begins again, in a week, a year or a decade, it won't be one school; more likely two or four. It's reasonable to believe UCF should be in the mix. But if they were a slam dunk, they would have been invited to the party in the summer of '17.

Big topic this off season is the new media deal for the AAC. Supposedly the conference and ESPN are in talks, but come Feb the AAC is free to go out in the market. These will likely be speculation of movement (UConn to the Big East?) if the deal is not rich enough or movement outward for others if it is lucrative.

I don't know anything about media negotiations. What are the odds that ESPN tries to send us to another conference in hopes of tanking the American conferences demands? A man can dream...

Really curious why Chad was trolling like that on Twitter by the way. Threw me off guard.

It was a joke on the Big 12's prolific defensive schemes across the board with the 54-51 win of the Rams over the Chiefs. Based on that game, both those teams would be a great fit for the Big 12!

Although, I do have to say that I got a little excited for a moment. I pine for the old Big East days when we played Louisville, Pitt, and West Virginia. Some good hate was flowing back then between those teams and UC. The thought of being reunited with WVU is enough to get people excited around here.

Yeah, I'm not sure if he was trolling from the start or covering up after indicating it had legs. Either way it's pretty lame especially since the original "joke" was also so nonsensical.

Yea I thought they were quoting a tweet that had just happened but apparently it was a joke from the night before. Maybe it came up in their website realignment thread and they thought it would be funny. Threw me off.

Right, the original Reddit tweet was pretty clearly a joke. Wasn't until Chad tweeted about them "not being wrong" that I was intrigued. Which appears to have been a joke too. He should know better than anyone how fragile UC fans emotions are in regards to Conf. Realignment.

I made the apparently incorrect assumption that people knew it was a joke from the night before as it was showing back up on my timeline 20 hours later. When it was clear people didn't realize the joke, I went back and pointed out the context of the original Reddit tweet to clear things up.

Just to be clear, there is nothing I loathe more than realignment speculation. I was mocking it, but apparently the joke missed. Live and learn I suppose...

Not really. A lot of people picked up on it at face value (cincinnati.com even had an article on it) and either took it seriously or were unsure whether it was a joke or not. And I don't blame them. It was vague (no reference to the NFL game being played at the time), contrived (the big12 trying to expand with 2 nfl teams - WTH?) and thus worst of all: unfunny and unclever. Moving on...
