NBR: More Conference Re-Alignment?
Just got an update on my phone from ESPN that Rutgers and Maryland are looking to join the Big 10...

This is getting ridiculous because this will start a whole new frenzy.

The BE simply is not going to be as strong as folks think.

Rutgers, Louisville, Cincinnati are all hoping for invites to get out of the BE.

I will be very surprised if the BE gets a good TV deal because that league is in such an unsteady state right now.

Rutgers! What the heck have they done lately, or ever?

The Big East - the league nobody wants to be in.

RE: NBR: More Conference Re-Alignment?
At this point, it is sounding pretty likely that both Maryland and Rutgers will in fact go to the Big Ten. It is likely that in that scenario, the ACC will make a play for UConn or potentially even Louisville to replace Maryland.

Some are concerned this recent development with Maryland and Rutgers could even trigger the Big XII to take another strong look at Louisville.

They're decent in basketball and football, but more importantly, folks want a piece of the NY/NJ TV market.

"What Saturday's news told me is that the Big East is done, kaput. If Rutgers leaves, then UConn will head to the ACC. That's right in the middle of Big East TV negotiations that will decide how close the league to Conference USA in terms of TV worth. The football? It better hope Boise keeps winning because the Broncos are the lynchpin of the reconstituted league.

And if this is truly the age of the superconference, then the Big East won't be the only conference eaten alive. If Delany pulls this off, then the repercussions are potentially huge. Notre Dame suddenly has an ACC scheduling agreement that is diminished. Does the Big 12 have to think of going beyond 10?"

We'll find out about their basketball in the next few weeks

Really? Dude you'd give up your left one if UAB were to get an invite. SMDH.

I'd give my left one to get into the ACC. With our academic/research credentials, I think we could have been candidate for future expansion if our basketball had been exceptional the last 5 years and the OCS proposal was alive.

We were in the Big East once, back when they called it CUSA.

RE: NBR: More Conference Re-Alignment?
It's a moot point. The Big East is not going to survive to 2014. The justification for Boise St., San Diego St., Houston, etc. to join that league keeps getting gutted. Eventually it will become the case that the football side needs more schools but the basketball schools will refuse to water down the brand any further.

The basketball side of things is going to get watered down even more. If Louisville, Cinci, and UConn leave then the top tier of the big east is gone in basketball. I've even seen rumors that the ACC could go hybrid and bring in basketball only schools (i.e. Georgetown).

All speculation. And yes, there's not one UAB fan that wouldn't jump at the invite to the Big East if it came tommorrow. Oh well. it's been fun with you guys. Good luck with the new CUSA.......

Also word is there is a $50M buyout from the ACC and that the B10 negotiations are centered around the Big 10's assistance in paying this - probably by withholding part of what would be their portion of the Big 10 Network money.

The MWC - C-USA Alliance will be stronger than the Big East. The winner of that game more times than not will be ranked ahead of old C-USA oops I mean Big East. TV knows this.
