Notes from the recent UT Board of Regents meeting regarding UTSA, 11/14-11/15
After looking at the agenda for the UT Board of Regents' (BOR) meeting, I wanted to point out and summarize the key items relevant to UTSA on there. Here are some quick notes from the agenda:

[note: if you want to read what's on the agenda exactly, go to the following link: http://www.utsystem.edu/sites/utsfiles/o...1-12ab.pdf ]

1. Approval for Lynn Hickey's salary increase: It looks like UTSA is seeking to have Hickey's salary increase every year from the 2012-2013 academic year to the 2016-2017 academic year (from $215K to $255K respectively).

In addition, UTSA wants to amend financial incentives to her contract for teams participating in post-season games and various championships in various sports; this is split into two categories, the football incentives to the "other varsity sports teams" incentive. For example, in football, if UTSA makes a bowl game in a particular academic year, Hickey will earn an extra $7,500 for that academic year, an extra $15,000 for winning the regular season conference championship, and an extra $20,000 for UTSA winning the national championship (although it is stated as "the football team win the NCAA championship", though we will be FBS, that in this case implies winning the national championship at that level via the new BCS post-season format). You can look more at pgs. 217-218 for more details on the salary increase and the incentives.

2. Additional funding for renovation of the John Peace Library: It seems that there is a Phase Three of renovations of the JPL. UTSA wants to increase the project cost from $7.3 million to $9.3 million (based from student fees). These renovations include new furniture and technology purchases. So that and the rising construction costs is what is making the project cost go up. You can go on pg.217 for more details.

3. Renaming of the University Center III: UTSA wants to rename the UC III (the newest part of the UC III) as the HEB University Center. Basically, due to the many contributions that HEB has given UTSA over the years in gifts and such (worth more that $7 million) and another $5 million over the next 5 years to support professorships and chairs. This $5 gift will also fund the HEB Faculty Research Excellence Fund, which will provide matching funds to attract private funding. All of this will help in recruiting world-class faculty to UTSA. You can go to pg. 85 for more details.

There's also something about a network upgrade to enable encryption on UTSA's network (this has to do with the IT department on information security compliance enhancements) on pg. 53 and there's also something about proposed negotiated gifts with potential naming features regarding UTSA on pg. 5 (this is on the table of contents though there wasn't more details on this that I could find).

There's probably more items on there regarding UTSA such as financial figures like budgets, expenses, and more and such but these are some of the main key points that I could find. I do not know if all of this passed during the UT BOR meetings but I'm thinking they did. If someone else has more details about this and anything else that I mentioned in this post, please share.
